What are appropriate, classy, and inoffensive ways to show public displays of affection? Which ones can inspire "aw"s in passerby? :)

Holding hands

Hugs

Peck on the cheek/lips

Arm around shoulders/waist

Thank you! :) Are longer kisses better to keep in private?

More opinions always welcome! :D

We:

- hold hands

- hug

- kiss (including long ones)

- grab each other's butt while walking lol (but never more than a few seconds)

- if I'm looking at something in a store, he likes to stand behind me with his hands on my waist while giving a kiss on my head / neck

IMO, as long as there's no tongue, longer kisses are okay.

Piggyback rides? ofcourse, my girlfrien weighs 125, and I weigh about 210 so she's working on strengthening her core.

I run a few event vendor operations during the summer and when I go to collect the money I sometimes see couples walking hand-in-hand dressed in the same outfits. Not like the "I'm stupid, I'm with stupid" T-shirts you see, but actually dressed the same. I always thought that was kind of cute, although, after a certain age, it's a bit silly.

I have a funny story about that...my BF and I were going out on our second date. I had changed clothes several times beforehand but then decided on a dark denim miniskirt and a knit mustard-and-navy-blue striped top. When I came out to the car he was wearing dark denim jeans and a polo shirt with the same colors as my top.

I love piggyback rides. I also like when a guy stands behind me with his arms around me, like Prettybaby said. Sitting on the same side of the booth in restaurants is so romantic. I've done that a lot. I once saw an older man and woman in a restaurant for Valentine's Day doing that; they were facing each other, talking and smiling. It was so adorable.

When I see couples in their 70s or 80s holding hands.

That's a cute story. I've had something similiar happen more than once. My best dressing the same story happened last month at the torchlight run. My GF and I decided to both dress as Carmen Miranda (you probably don't know who she was but it involves a fruity hat) for the race. She looked good. I looked ridiculous. Everytime we got cheered we'd stop and try to do a tango. The last eigth mile I piggybacked her but I lost my hat. Good times!

I can't sit on the same side. I'm a lefty with really long arms.

Actions that demonstrate affection are appropriate PDAs. I think most people have no problem with hand holding, hugging, sweet kisses.

But actions that demonstrate lust or sexual activities make me uncomfortable as an observer. I don't want to see tongue swapping kisses, butt grabbing, breast touching, crotches rubbing together, etc.

Ah, so the demonstrated intent behind the PDA is what makes it appropriate or inappropriate! That makes sense! How interesting! :)

Agreed.

Although I have been known to give my husband's butt a sneaky squeeze when we're just on the street or buying groceries. :o

Over the jeans! Over the jeans!
