It's only hard because you make it hard...treat them just like anyone else you'd talk to...stop thinking of them as potential dates and start thinking of them as normal people...

Hokie is right, your working yourself up, over thinking the situation just relax, if your really having a hard time talking to them in public, might i suggest online dating? Takes away all the nervousness.
