This is the second thread I've made in a week that sounds like a 'Ernest goes to ...' movie, I should feel bad for that.

Anyway I decided to post a picture of myself outside the physical fitness forum (where most people don't see it). This was taken about a month ago, though there is not a big difference (maybe 5-10 pounds) between now and when this picture was taken (and I haven't done any serious lifting since then so my muscles haven't improved or degraded) so it's pretty much current. I'll update it of course when I feel the need.

I'm aware I still have work to go (I can't stop staring at my chin haha) but I went to the beach the other day and for the very first time I took my shirt off and didn't feel embarrassed :bunny:

It was taken with a webcam ( I don't even own a real camera) so forgive the off centered-ness of it. I'll go to greater lengths to get good pictures as I get closer to my goal.

FYI I am shirtless, so you have been warned. (pic in sig)

You've lost a lot of weight.

Congrats. I'm curious (being a professional in health & fitness)... what's your current regimen looking like (ie diet, sleep, physical activity levels/type, exercise intensities/type)??

Posted

I only vaguely remember what you looked like before, R... so I don't have a good point of reference...?

Your chin probably has a lot to do with the way you're posing, pushing you head back. :)

Congrats. I'm curious (being a professional in health & fitness)... what's your current regimen looking like (ie diet, sleep, physical activity levels/type, exercise intensities/type)??

January 24th I started at about 300 pounds. I cut my diet back to 1600-1800 calories a day of whatever I want (I avoid carbs simply because I'd rather eat meat but I'm not religious about it), believing that calorie count is more important than the 'fine tuning' of whole grain vs. white and good fat vs. bad fat.

Mid-march I started exercising after I lost 30 pounds or so. I took it up from about 3-4 days a week at the start to 6-7 days a week in the gym for 2 hours, doing high intensity cardio (on a stairmaster) and lots of free weights.

Late june, I was down to about 240, I moved and fell off the work out wagon, diet still going strong

Early august took this picture, 230 took this picture, diet still good

Now I've decided to go to the gym more often and I'm down to about 220-225.

Does that answer it?

Wow... a way to be appreciative of my compliment to you, *******.

I was trying to be kind and supportive to congratulate you on your success (and continued success). I am affiliated with the ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine)... so WELLNESS and HEALTH are important to me. I enjoy seeing people become more healthy/fit.

But nevermind.

haha, thats true, it certainly accentuates the problem, but sad truth is I still have love handles and a little double chin but it doesn't bother me as much as it used too.

here are some old pictures, the first one from 8 months before I started dieting at all (I was 270 at the time and on the way up), the second one was me about 3-4 months into the diet (maybe 260 or so)

I'm sorry I think you got the wrong impression from my post, I was just trying to tell you what I did. I'm not sure where you got the idea that I was trying to be anything but honest and open but I'm sorry you got that idea.

I appreciate your support :)

I have a thread going in the physical fitness forum about what I'm currently doing in the gym, I get alot of my advice from that forum so feel free to go and get an indepth look at what I'm doing in the gym right now (my diet is not that exciting, it really is just a matter of staying below 1800 calories for me right now) and give me any advice, I always appreciate it.

Wow, amazing progress, dude!!

What's your daily diet typically look like?

Differs from month to month. I tend to go shopping at bulk food stores because its cheaper then just eat the same stuff cooked differently for a month haha.

I tend to eat 3 500 calorie meals and a snack.

The meals in my current rotation (that will changed when I go grocery shopping again in 2-4 weeks)

Plain spaghetti

Fried fish (that I caught from a lake)

hamburgers (1/4lb patties with no bun)

hamburger helper

meatballs

rice+chicken

rice+pork

rice+sausage

All with whatever manner of frozen vegetables I feel like cooking (fresh veggies almost always spoil before I eat them).

Snacks are usually apples, pickles, or hard boiled eggs.

All of my meals are quite small, for instance I may only have 3 little pieces of fried fish, but it amounts to 500 calories. So it's a decision on whether I'd rather eat some delicious fried fish (my own recipe, yummm) and only get a little, or eat a larger portion of plain rice w/ chicken. (and maybe some 0 calorie sauce, like hot sauce or mustard)

Maybe i'll post mine then.

I dropped 55lbs from 260 to 205.

But i'm 5'8"

Hey Rorschach have you taken your fat clothes to the goodwill yet?

I had mine in a pile in the laundry room & pulled them out.

Man, I've dropped 10" of my waist.

My dad used to joke I bought my pants from Omar the tent maker.

My shirts? even worse. It's just damn amazing how big I used to be.

And don't worry about slacking. I slacked for a month also. My body needed a rest.

when I get down to 200 I'm going clothes shopping, me and my mom (who always bugs me to go clothes shopping ) are going to go. For right now I mostly just wear what I have although it's way too big and borrow some of my dad's clothes.

You can bet my dad has mixed feelings about the fact that his clothes not only fit, but are somewhat loose on me when I used to be way bigger than him  I joke around that now I get to be the skinny one (when my brother isn't home haha).

I wear size large shirts, and I don't know about pants (bellies throw it all off), which is crazy because my shirts have been XL at least since 7th grade.

EDIT: and yeah you should totally post pictures, at 205 I'm sure you look even better than I do.

I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum compared to most. I'm trying to gain weight. I'm 165 pounds right now(I'm 6'1") and I'm trying to get to around 180. Only thing is if I do happen to gain the weight, it'll probably go to my upper body, which kind of sucks because it's so hard to find good jeans in my size. I'm only a 30 waist and a minimum of a 34 length. My shoulders are 40 inches, so there's the v-shape.

If I was 2 inches shorter or 20 pounds heavier, life would be so much easier, but oh well. Can't have everything.

You don't look half bad... if I was single and you seemed like a nice guy, I wouldn't say no :)

Are you eating those meals for breakfast and lunch too?

You really need to work on your diet if you want to really lean down.

Nix the spaghetti (not a balanced meal, too many carbs) and hamburger helper (few nutrients, and heavy on sodium), don't fry the fish (way too high in saturated fat) but grill/broil/bake it instead, and make sure you're eating brown rice instead of white.

Do you like chicken? You can chicken breasts usually in bulk. Chicken (with a nice spice rub), frozen broccoli (the kind that nukes in the bag), and brown rice would make the perfect dinner.

I agree with the spaghetti, I've had hambulger helper twice in two months so I agree with that too, the way I fry fish isn't so bad, I go flour+spices->egg->panko, and fry it in about 4-5 tablespoons of oil in the bottom of a large skillet, so it's not deep fat frying or batter frying (although I do bake it sometimes, and the second they carry brown rice in bulk I'll buy it haha.

And yes chicken+broccoli=delicious.

The biggest trick I find is just portion control, having one small bowl/plate and then stopping.
