Rorschach Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Hello LS to anybody who remembers me. Anyway for those who don't I used to be quite heavy, I had (have) a bad 'self image' in the sense that I don't really feel I can trust my judgment about my looks any longer, my view of my self is so shrouded by my own thought process I don't think I'm being fair to myself. I used to weight 300 pounds, I dieted/exercised, I'm down to 220 which was the high end of my original goal weight (200-220), I don't see any point in stopping now so I'm thinking a goal of 190-200 is possible. Anyway point of this topic. How can you get a truly honest view about how other people see you? Can't trust my own view, can't trust a family member/friend who will just tell you what you want to hear. Bleh.
USMCHokie Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Well, well, well, look who the cat dragged in... Welcome back, friend, and congrats on your progress! Your new goals are certainly possible and something you should continue striving for. Remember, you're not just improving your body and physique, but also your lifestyle. These should be permanent changes in your lifestyle...the changes in your body are simply a result of the lifestyle changes... And you know I won't blow sunshine up your ass.
Author Rorschach Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 Hey hokie how yah been. I think after 9 months of dieting and 80 pounds I think I got this lifestyle routine down haha. Last week has been good, 2 weeks before that not so much but even eating more than I normally would I didn't gain a pound just because my metabolism has increased and more than normal is still only about 2200 calories a day.
USMCHokie Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 I'm doing well, thanks. I'm honestly quite impressed by your progress to date and dedication to your goals (and even surpassing them). Keep in mind that the further along you get towards your final goals, the slower the progress will be. Don't ever get discouraged by that. But I know you already know that.
Star Gazer Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 That's an amazing accomplishment in and of itself!! You can always ask us! Or... are you working with a trainer at all?
Author Rorschach Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 Yeah, I've fallen off the exercise train and have to work to get back on it, it's becoming alot more important as I lose more and more weight, I used to go 5-6 times a week but I think I haven't gone in something like a month, it's terrible. This topic is the next logical progression of being dateworthy anyway, fix the body, fix the mind, become a better more complete, healthy person. Needs to be done.
Stung Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Hey, welcome back Rorschach. You've dropped a lot of weight, you should be really proud of your hard work and accomplishment. Why do you doubt that your family is telling you the truth if they are telling you you look good? Just enjoy the fact that the people who care about you the most think you look great! 'Truth' about looks is subjective, anyway. You're just not going to get a hard flat answer that applies to everyone's perceptions of you. If you must, though, post some pics in this thread. LS members have displayed a certain willingness to rip people to shreds under the guise of 'telling it like it is' in the past, if that's what you really want .

Last post was at Hokie so there is no confusion. yeah I really wish I could afford a personal trainer, I know I'd get alot out of it. Right now it's just all my own discipline/knowledge, be nice to have somebody cheering me on, but after rent/food/utility bills I have maybe 100-200 dollars spare a month, budget that tight doesn't allow me to get a trainer.

Understandable...life happens...but if it's important to you, then you have to make exercise a priority in your life...as much so as work, eating, and sleep...permanently schedule it into your daily routine...if you have other matters to attend to, ask yourself if you'd skip work to do it... This topic is the next logical progression of being dateworthy anyway, fix the body, fix the mind, become a better more complete, healthy person. Needs to be done. You'd be amazed at how fixing the body will affect your mind and your emotional strength...and I think you're moving along at a fine pace...the fact that you continue to check in with us after all this time is a good sign that you'll do just fine...

Well, it's hard to trust friends/family because to them I honestly do look really good because they're used to seeing me +80 pounds, but that doesn't really say I look good objectively, but that I look good compared to how I used to look. It's a difficult thing to really get a good handle on, how one looks to other people. I just gave it some thought, about posting a picture on this board, but I know the answer is going to be 'looking good, keep losing weight' which is code for 'yep, still fat but not so bad' which is where I know I'm at right now anyway. Not saying that in a depressed self-pitying way, but a simple statement of fact, it's a long road that I'm not done walking. Probably just have to wait until I'm done to post some pictures so I can get some 'looking good' with no qualifiers attached, which is what I really need to hear from somebody who would have no reason to sugar coat it.

I have tomorrow off, I'll go tomorrow and check in and tell you what I've done. I agree that it's something I've been putting off that i really need to start doing again, I think I'd feel alot better if I could see some muscle getting packed onto my frame, some areas are probably just floppy from lack of definition moreso than overly fat.

Very good. Remember, when you're going from overweight to lean muscular, you're going to get A LOT smaller before you start to get bigger...just something to keep in mind...

Thanks for the advice, I saw some results even when I was 260 something and going to the gym religiously, 40 pounds later I'll see something if not everything.

Same here. I'm at the 55lb mark. now at 205. My goal is 190. I think. I'm carrying more muscle than ever & it's been almost 15yrs since I was around 190 so I have no idea where I need to be. Everyone I know says I look great because they knew me when I was heavy. Even the woman i'm going out with knew me as heavy so yeah I look good to them now also. You want the brutal? Post a pic then only ask for opinions from men who post their own pics so you can guage their opinions & their own level of fitness. And figure out where you stand. As you've seen in other posts the women are all over the board on what body types they like.

Nobody knows how they look. And, it is for their best interest and happiness. It actually does not matter how we look unless there is any extreem about looks. as for weight, you can trust only weight numbers if you compare them to your height. What is your height? What is your weight? Do you exercise? For example, if you are 5.3'' and you want to have weight 105, you should consume about 1450 ccal per day. The taller you are, the more weight and ccal per day you can afford to look good.

But I think people need to have some confidence in their looks at the same time. If I don't feel good about how I look it will negatively effect how I act around women I'm interested in, always giving me that little voice in the back of my head saying 'nobody would find you attractive'. Completely wrong and self-destructive I know but sometimes it's hard to shake those feelings.
