Butterflying Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 So I'm shopping at Target for an album and I hear someone playing some very funky tunes on a keyboard in the music section. I follow my ears to find the composer and OMG! It's an extremly attractive guy. He's alone. As I approach him, he smiles and stops playing to say "Hello." I tell him what I know about music and compliment his skills. He says "Thank you." But before I can say another word, he tells me that he has a girlfriend. Of course I never intended to ask the guy out (I'm not that bold.) But he told me that he plays in a band. So I was at least interested in the name of the band and where I can find them playing in town sometime. When he announced at random that he had a girlfriend, I didn't know what to say or do at that point. I was slightly offended that he assumed I was interested in more than his music. We didn't even know each others names. I was like, how does he know that I find him attractive? On the other hand, he may have been setting the record straight just in case he wasn't sure what my intentions were. He wanted to be clear. Maybe this is the way he starts all conversations with strange women. Either way, I've never met anyone else who did this so it caught me off gaurd. It's not like I was throwing myself at him or anything. While I actually did find him attractive, my approach was professional. For all he knew, I could have been a record executive. Afterall, I was dressed in business attire because I had just left work. Has this ever happened to anyone else? What's the best way to handle it? What do you say to a person who just blurts out that they have a boyfriend/ girlfriend when you meet them? In my case, I was interested in this guy. So his information was enough for me to say okay and walk away, which I did. But I still wonder how he knew I was interested without me saying so. Was he arrogant, or just precautious?

If he's really good looking he may get the reaction you gave, all the time, and thus picked up on your signs of interest- pertaining to him specifically. -He could have recognized your interest and it was unrequited. - He may have preemptively told you he had a girlfriend because he (too) found you attractive but doesn't think it's worth the risk, jeopardizing his current r'ship. Although not sure how quickly men process those thoughts, or at what point...if they do...because some don't... -His girlfriend could have been there in the store too, just in a different department. Letting you know right away is a quick send off without causing a (3-party) scene had she have happened upon your convo. It could be anything. No way to truly know, so don't let it consume you.
meerkat stew Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Awesome... do you know how many times I have been greeted with "I have a boyfriend" after merely saying "Hi" to some woman standing next to me or sitting, sometimes even when they are actually rubbing their hands up and down my back or sides, pressing their tits in my side or back or have a hand laying casually on my ASS? Welcome to how the other half lives each and every day. Confusing, right?
