CLC2008 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 It's been a while since I've really taken notice to anyone and I have a new next door neighbor who is really cute. He looks to be in his 30's, clean cut, etc. but that is all I know so far. I have not noticed any women around so I'm thinking no girlfriend (and hopefully he is no homo ). Here's the thing, I feel weird just walking over there and introducing myself being that I live right next door. What would be some some good ways to strike up a conversation with him? I could always have my aunt or cousin be the wing guy but I think that would be a bit silly. Any tips/suggestions?
tigressA Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 (edited) You should totally go over there with some freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies, welcome him to the neighborhood and flirt outrageously! That's what I would do. Edited August 30, 2010 by tigressA

That's what I would do. I am working up to that. This morning, he left for work and he must work in an office, because he was wearing a business suit. So he lives in a house and has a job, two thumbs up. Maybe one day after work, I could wash my car or something...

That's what I would do. As a guy that would totally work for me.. However you should expect to be invited in - make sure that is ok with you. I wouldn't jump on you or anything, just talk but there are some crazies out there...

Oh yes, I am totally all about the stranger danger, and I would not invite myself into his house and not sure if I would go in there just yet either. He just moved in.
tigressA Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 The car-washing thing sounds pretty good too. I'd also go for that, as a more indirect move. And of course, I'd wear some teeny little shorts or something... Perhaps you could just do an escalating campaign of sorts.
Butterflying Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 New neighbor is a great opportunity to meet someone. My approach would depend on the housing setting. If it's a condo, are you a member of the homeowners association board? You could go over with some helpful information pertaining to the community ammenities, rules, ect. ect. in a small packet to give to him. That could be accompanied with cookies or some other edible treat. If this is a community with detached houses, I would make or buy a gift basket to give to him with a few common things anyone might need when they have just relocated. Or it could be a basket of muffins or cookies. Whatever the case, there should be a message attached: "Welcome to the neighborhood." When you deliver it personally, you have a chance to introduce yourself and hopefully get to know something about him. If he's freindly, he will appreciate the welcome, and he may even drop by your place one day with a special thank you.
Author CLC2008 Posted August 30, 2010 Author Posted August 30, 2010 I think it would be cool if we became a couple, then we could do the flashlight in the window thing.
Author CLC2008 Posted August 30, 2010 Author Posted August 30, 2010 What's the flashlight in the window thing? It's when you flash each other with your flashlight through the window, you never did that when you were younger in your neighborhood?
tigressA Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Ahh okay, I was thinking it was something like that but wasn't totally sure, so I felt I should ask. No, I never did that when I was younger. Sounds like fun though Have you started on those cookies yet??

No, I never did that when I was younger. Sounds like fun though Have you started on those cookies yet?? No, I have not started on the cookies, and I don't think I will be doing that just yet. Maybe I'll grab his newspaper and say it was left at our house by accident. That and I have to be outside the house more often and wear pretty dresses.
tigressA Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I don't think I'd do the newspaper thing; you might get caught out by someone and have to explain yourself... Yes, definitely do get out of the house more, and work those cute outfits. Catch his eye and wave, say hi.
LisaLee Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Take him a bottle of wine, that is very new neighborly. My mom got several bottles of wine when she moved into her new house.
alexlakeman Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 It's not like you are going to run into his house, so don't worry ... just yet.. if he's a psycho or not, lol.. If you would've met him at happy hour, you would never know... Hmmm, he might be eyeing you as well, not knowing if you are single or not, lol... I have the same issue, but roles are reversed, lol... I live in an apartment and there is a neighbor in the other building that I see at the pool all the time and haven't said hi or anything... lol One day that you see him arrive, just go by and knock on the door and introduce yourself, "welcome to the neighborhood' ... easier said than done... since me being a guy, haven't done it, lol... Is it a house, apartment? If you have a gym or a pool, maybe he goes there on the weekends... good luck
runner Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 suddenly you've found a new inspiration to plant that garden you've been meaning to get around to, just outside your house (and in plain sight)
Raderick Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 No, I have not started on the cookies, and I don't think I will be doing that just yet. You don't want to be beaten to the punch by another woman in the neighborhood who also has an eye on him. Or better yet, beaten to the punch by any woman. And make me some.
alexlakeman Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Take him a bottle of wine, that is very new neighborly. My mom got several bottles of wine when she moved into her new house. That's it!!!!!!!!!!! .. .then maybe he'll invite you over to dinner and the bottle of wine.. I guess it depends on the part of the US or country you are in, lol.. I live in Florida, USA and no one has ever come by to introduce themselves, nor have I ever done it... I've lived at the current spot for 3 years now, and the only people I met were by the pool, and guys just drinking and stuff, no females..
Author CLC2008 Posted August 31, 2010 Author Posted August 31, 2010 It is a residential neighborhood (houses). I'm not really comfortable at this point bringing him baked goods or bringing over a bottle of wine though, but all goods things to take into consideration. I could always ask him nicely to come mow the lawn.

somuchforthat Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 a move needs to be made at least.....maybe not cookies or wine but some sort of introductions is required lol Keep spying on him and see what else he does...does he play tennis? golf? maybe he has jet skis hidden somewhere lol

Well, I've seen him on the weekends wearing a baseball uniform, so I presume he plays on a baseball league. Maybe I could throw a baseball in his backyard or something?
