Is using smilies in texts and typed conversations effeminate? Obviously you can go overboard, but I'm talking about just once in awhile, to make a message more playful.

:) :) :) :)

I'm all man BTW.

For a 3-4 paragraph email - I actually try to use less than 3 smiles and less than 3 hehe's or haha's

Wow that sounds silly!

No. If he's effeminate it has nothing to do with how many smilies he uses!

I am a woman and never use them.

I don't like guys who use them, either. I consider it immature and childish.

My ex used them a lot. Ugh. And he is 45.

I couldn't care less whether a guy uses smilies or not.

What sort of 'man' would use smileys :):mad::eek::rolleyes:

I use them all the time, but in the right context.

It's too hard to misinterpret emails and texts.

For example if you're flirting with some chick over email and she brings up the topic of sex, which one seems less creepy?

"Are you asking for a picture of my junk?"

or

"Are you asking for a picture of my junk?"

Do whatever you want, if she doesn't like it find another one.

It's not effeminate in and of itself. But it can be telling if the dude uses emoticons like smiley faces or LOLs when something isn't funny or a LOL situation or over punctuation all the time with sad faces, eye rolling, angry puss or w/e. One can become not necessarily "queer" but freakin' weird and smarmy. I don't know any emoticons that convey "fabulousness" or "Cherchez la femme". :p

I never did, either the typed out ones or the click-on ones, but tend to get taken the wrong way sometimes, so started using them.

My favorite ones are :D and

Hardly ever use :o:mad::eek::confused:

I use this one :bunny: when making drug references.

Hardly ever see men here using

The best one I ever saw was on another forum and was akin to this one  but was a side profile of the face with a sick look actually vomiting. Hilarious.

I wish someone would develop "smilicons 2.0" conveying such thoughts and feelings as:

Righteous indignation, this one could be an angry face pointing out at the reader, "HOW DARE YOU!!"

Insouciant scorn, this one would be a snide face with a hand picking its nose.

Defiance, this one would be an angry face with a hand shooting a bird

Sexual arousal, this one would be a googly eye face with its tongue hanging out.

Dismissive, this one would be a blown up face with two hands making a fart noise.

Subtextual motive, this one would be a head with a sherlock holmes hat

Stop trolling, a smilicon with bushy green hair that looks like a troll doll.

Misogyny, a vagina with the "not allowed" circle and slash around it.

Misandry, a penis with the "not allowed" circle and slash around it.

Your post is stupid, a smilicon shaped like a short bus.
