Hi,

I was just wondering... For you ladies, how important is it that the guy you're dating is fit? I'm not talking about bodybuilding etc. just a normal "healthy fit".

If you want, you can rate the importance on the scale 1-5 (1-not important to 5-very important).

Good question I'm interested to know what the ladies have to say.

My guess is that most will say it isn't that important. Looks are very important, but fitness independently is nearly irrelevant.

But fitness will inherently play into looks...

On the other hand, I actually find that fitness reflects one's personality and values moreso than their physical appearance.

Fitness is important to me, not in the sense that you need to look like a bodybuilder or model, but so that I can see that health is a priority to you!

Besides, at least 75% of how you look is choice. I have a nice body because I choose to do yoga and eat fast food once or twice a month at the most.

I cannot date a man whose stomach sticks out. A man has to be fit and in shape in order for me to go out with him.

Normal, healthy fit is nice. Sporty is even better. But I won't rule out a guy with some extra padding. Obese and unfit would not be a go, but carrying a few extra pounds is OK -- as long as he can keep up with me in life and in bed. :D

I prefer healthy fit guys. I am 40, in good shape, and hit the gym 4-5 times a week.

I don't like guys who don't take pride in their health or appearance.

No "body builders". Just handsome, fit guys.

When I trained people in gyms, I used to have a lot of female clients. I am an accredited personal trainer, gymnast, kick boxer, body weight trainer and a climber, so I am lean. I asked my clients why they came to me and not to the the huge guy who's muscles were ripping out of his shirt, that kind of 'on steroids' look.

Women told me that they hate that look, which is funny, as the only people who seem to find the big guys attractive (apart from a few) is...OTHER GUYS!!!! They are the ones who say ''I want to look like that''

Women on the whole, far prefer the lean guy without the ''oh look at me'' complex. A 6 pack and well defined muscles far over runs the guys on 5 protein shakes a day. Hope this helps

EDIT* This info I learned is the one thing that stopped me becoming a muscle head. SO don't do it!

The same can be said about the airbrushed model types you see on magazine covers, I have known way more women who find that attractive than men! I've found men prefer the way I look when I spend 5 minutes getting ready over when I spend 30.

I concur! I hate that look. Although I'm a sucker for panda-eyes.....

I would rather a woman who is equally as much a tomboy as she is a lady. Sorry..a little off topic here :o

It definitely makes life easier as a woman if you're not so high maintenance that you're afraid to get your hands dirty. Or that you waste time in front of a mirror when you could be doing so many more productive or enjoyable things.

I know this topic was about men, so yeah, if men were as strict about their appearance as society often expects women to be, it's kind of offputting. It's definitely refreshing to know that there's more and more men who view beauty standards towards women the same way!

I definitely prefer a fit and athletic build in a man. I prefer the bodybuilding type over a lean muscular (skinny?) build. I like a guy who looks like he could protect me. However, I do not like the HUGE steroid look. Usually guys who look like they are on steroids are on steroids, and i am just not all that open to that kind of drug use. I did date a very big guy (who admittedly was on steroids) and I just couldn't appreciate his muscles. Coming out of a physically abusive marriage, enormous muscles and strength combined with drug use scare the hell out of me.

Because I live a healthy lifestyle with a clean diet and exercise, I need a partner who values these things too.

I like a guy who is fit.

Even more important, I like a guy who respects my desire to be in the gym and to eat right. I hate it when a guy is subtly (or not-so-subtly) giving me a hard time because I stick to a workout and nutrition regime.

This.

I don't think I could date someone who didn't care about fitness at all. Not because of the effect it would eventually have on his looks, or his well-being, or even his health; but because I can't fathom not giving a fcvk at all about your body.
