I don't think there's a foolproof way around it, you just have to keep putting yourself out there and evaluate each situation on it's own merits. I took myself outside of mainstream dating rules and games and sought a man who was outside them too. I paid attention to certain indicators, and never pursued a relationship with a man who didn't call/text early and often, and definitely when he said he would.
