D-Lish
Before I lost my business, I owned the coolest loft situated in an old factory that had been renovated into the coolest lofts. Exposed brick walls, hard-wood floors, exposed ducts, all open concept- 1200sqft. It was gorgeous, it was my safe haven. I had decorated it in velvet curtians and glass chandeliers, stainless steel appliances, a slate floor in the kitchen. I loved that place more than any other place I've ever lived in. After things went sour and I had to sell it, I was devastated. I still am. I miss it like crazy. It was the coolest bachelorette pad in the world. Now I share a loft with 2 others- it's not the same, but it's alright- it's very industrial, and there are always hookers in our parking lot:lmao:
Art_Critic
We live in a set of tents.. the kid gets his own, the wife her own and I get my own and one tent is set up with a chemical toilet that we all share.. The lot rent is cheap and air conditioning is free... Fires every night.. marshmallows and smores are a daily occurrence. My tent is equipped with an air mattress... ha.. the wife only gets a sleeping bag.. The hard part is getting Domino's to deliver to an empty lot in the middle of no where. norajane
2 bedroom, 2 bath condo in Chicago, in a 6 unit building, not so far from the home of the Cubs. It feels like a treehouse because it has huge windows and French doors in the combined living/dining/kitchen great-room, and being on the second floor, I look out directly into the branches of a big tree. It's really cool, whether it be spring and the leaf buds are coming out, or lush summer green, changing autumn leaves, or snow coating the bare branches in winter. There's a surprising number of birds, too. I have a deck in the back, where I've planted lots of flowers. This year, I went with an orange and yellow flower theme, and discovered a new flower I'd never seen before called orange marmalade crossandra. I also have a grill out there, which is a first for me, so am learning how to grill the perfect burger, rosemary-garlic potatoes, and salmon, so far. My favorite thing about my place is that it's all mine - I killed the mortgage earlier this year. And I do love the neighborhood, and the treehouse feel. It's home. SarahRose
We live in a house, in the main part of the city. It has bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens and other rooms. It has closets too. It also has my husband, son and son's Nanny in it. It has food. I'm jealous. After the reno hopefully we'll have all those rooms too and not just this outhouse. It's very cold, drafty, and dark. Sometimes we have food when we find a few coins at the train station we can share a can of fancy feast. I like the fish.
Stung
I live on an island, overlooking the major metropolitan city I grew up in, which lies just across the water. We are currently renting a sprawling flat in a HUGE old Victorian with lovely high ceilings, giant windows, great bone structure, just a couple of blocks from the beach. I take the kids to the beach at least once a week. We're considering buying a house on this island so we wanted to try it out for a year or two first; unfortunately this flat is probably spoiling me because it's bigger by itself than any house we'd be likely to buy here. I also own a small condo in the wine country two hours away which I lived in alone several years ago, and my husband owns another small condo in a nearby college town (same metropolitan area), which we all lived in until recently. Now we're using both condos as rental properties--great in theory, but right now they're both vacant and undergoing renovation, so they're currently a couple of life-sucking money pits. In my fantasy, we have a loft in the heart of downtown AND a sailboat we spend six months out of every year sailing the world in. I'm also quite fond of Marlena's treehouse. Feelin Frisky
I currently live in a fairly big house. But I'd rather return to NYC and live on 5th Avenue in the 60''s or 70's in one of those $10-20Million old NY mansions on the top floor facing Central Park. Private elevator and space to walk around on the outside of the artificial landcape between the statues and gargoyles.
