Let's just face it ... we men were created to enjoy "variety" - we can't help it!

Recommended Posts

We are much more complex creatures than that. If we were all that governed by biology, then everybody would cheat, but everybody does not.

I must also agree with Moimeme regarding "cheating." However, I think the original question, as to whether or not humans are meant to be monogamous, is a different matter all together.

After all, even those of us who don't cheat don't necessarily stay with the same partner throughout our entire life. Some of us just opt to get out of a former relationship before pursuing a new one. Thus, our divorce rate is also increasing!

While I may choose for myself to be "monogamous" while in a committed relationship, it doesn't necessarily mean I will remain with this partner for my entire lifetime...although that is certainly my intention.

I'm already on long-term relationship number two...and that doesn't even count all the attractive, but screwed-up, partners in between!! :o

So you have no control over your body, actions,or words?

just trying to get this straight.

Then don't get married!

screw whoever you want .

So, Nostahlgia, you're a creationist? God created you on the....what, sixth day?...to enjoy variety?

I like alphadawg's posts about the function of culture. I, frankly, was created to scratch my rear with a peeled twig and pick fleas off of my friends' furry coats. I wasn't "created" to post my opinions on the Loveshack forum, nor spend the best years of my life in a cubicle with no natural daylight.

actually, you do. It's called a moral code, and it blends nicely in with free will. Schtup away all you want, but sooner or later you're gonna start thinking about the people it affects other than you.

++++++++++++

Men, take heed: some day you're going to father a little girl, and EVERYTHING is going to be turned upside down. I guarantee that your liberal take on sleeping around, living together and all that other fun stuff is going to change once you realize that your little girl is perfectly capable of doing these fun things, as well. Oh, and you're not going to like it one damned bit when you realize that your little princesa is being eye-candy to all kinds of men who want to do nasty things with her ...

Isn't real monogomy being with one partner only, all thru life, and even after the death of one partner the other never pairs up again -- like ducks?

Humans date before they select someone to marry. Dating doesn't have to mean sex. So isn't it that monogomy is a choice and not inherent to humans as a species?

Because humans have the ability to choose it elevates us above other animals. We create our societies and our rules. We created gods and laws to govern ourselves. Marriage is not found in nature because it is a choice that other animals do not have. Dating is our mating ritual and when we find a suitable mate we couple with them. That's is just sex in the animal kingdom, but humans attach so much to it.

People can love and make a commitment without the sex part, or with the sex part being after the fact - not a deciding factor. That doesn't make us monogomous - it's a lifestyle choice.

Liking "variety" is a social thing just as much as biological.

i agree that humans aren't natually monogamous. some animals mate with ONE partner instinctively. humans have to make a committment, and CONTROL themselves in order to stick to it. so clearly, humans CAN be monogamous and those who see it as advanageous stay that way, but humans have no biological problem being polygamous.

90% of men are sleeze.

Oh, Raine. That's not true at all. No wonder you have trust issues if you believe this! :(

Oh cripes.

Guess what. If your basic attitude is one of distrust, none of your relationships will ever work. Might as well join monasteries/convents and be done with it.

I said 90% for a reason, there are a few that fall under the good 10%, same goes for women. It is hard to tell the difference though because both men and women act a certain way to fit in with there gender. Personally I don't see the point.

In prehistoric times, it is theorized that WOMEN ruled the planet. The reason being WOMEN were the only gender to be able to reproduce.

At the time, the males had no clue that they had something to do with this reproduction process. All they knew was that the WOMEN were responsible for increasing the numbers of the tribe, and a larger tribe meant better chance of survival against enemy tribes. So men WORSHIPPED females and their fertility.

And the men, bascially, were used by the WOMEN as worker ants.

Occasionally they'd enter a woman's abode just to get their rocks off and then go back to work, but had no clue what exactly "sex" was. As with animals, it just made them feel satisfied.

Not until they began domesticating wild animals did they start to understand the male role in the "birds and the bees".

And, from thereafter, the life of the WOMAN was never the same.

And 90% of women are lying, manipulative, coldhearted wenches

I claim wench status! I claim wench status!

Vile wench!

Anyway, I was just responding to the 90% of men are whatever thing, I don't really think that.

It's more like 89%.

QOUTE:

This is a interesting story. I dont know if I buy it but its a entertaining thought. It just seems that usually all life instintively knows how to survive, its just nature. I mean you see a baby animal born and immediately it knows it should start drinking from the mother for nutrients, ect. It never has to learn it, it just does it to survive based on instinct. However, I can see how humans perhaps just had this urge to have sex and didn't understand the outcome until later. Im really not sure where I stand on this I guess. Interesting

isn't sex a very important part of a relationship? if yes, then do you mean if a woman chooses not to have sex (for whatever reason), the man can claim to love her but because of biological needs, he can sleep with another woman??

Man can always keep the love and sex apart, can't they? They always use this statement to justify their promiscuous behaviour.

There are men who sleep around...... (DICKHOUNDogomous)

There are women who sleep around.... (HOnogomous!)

Then there are those who are content and remain faithful......MONogomous

I guess it's a 'classification' call.....HAHA!

See, I dont see this. I am a man, I dont think the original statement about liking variety pretends to justify any behaviour. It just explains why plenty of men struggle with being monogomous. Explanation vs Justification........seperate things.

Wow, some of you people went into this ethical/philosophical mumbo jumbo crap when all I stated was that regardless how much a man loves a woman and is completely satisfied with her sexual/emotionally/socially etc, we find other women alluring as an instinct and we CAN'T HELP IT and/nor FIGHT THE FEELING! People LOVE variety as it truly is the "Spice of Life" regardless if it's BAD or GOOD.

Besides, you should be flattered that we men feel you women are a work of art and beauty. I know you amaze me at least by your utter beauty and perfection. ;)

Some of us really LIKE discussing 'ethical/philosophical mumbo jumbo crap'.

all I stated was that regardless how much a man loves a woman and is completely satisfied with her sexual/emotionally/socially etc, we find other women alluring as an instinct and we CAN'T HELP IT

Yes, but you stated it as fact when it has not been scientifically proven and therefore is opinion - and open to debate.

Dude: 1. You tried to speak for all men. 2. Your position is essentially a philosophical one called essentialism. You might be a victim of biology. I am not. Many other men are not. If my girlfriend ran about claiming her womb made her do things I'd dump her lickety-split; I assume she'd hold me to the same standards.

I like this debate, but I think you should meet the issue of some women twigging out about porn more head-on and straightforwardly. Y'know. Like a man. ;)

Nobody is a victim of biology. Those who feel more controlled by it should fight to catch up the others who don't, otherwise they could not establish a serious relationship. This whole biology crap is a poor excuse for men who cheats and controlled by their desires and feel that's OK because this is just the way they were created.

I believe there are people who are less built to monogmy just because they are they way they are. Genetics, culture and way of life are definitly has a part in this, but after all, everybody acts the way they decide to and to say that "This is how man were created" is nothing but a bad excuse for people who wanna calm their concious and girlfriends about their desires...

Although society in a way gives more legitamecy to men to think or act like that, there is no difference in this issue between men and women. Alphadawg said I assume she'd hold me to the same standards. and I believe in this too. A couple should measure each other by the same standards, in this issue espacially.
