Why do they call it 'falling' in love?

So you might consider me bitter, which in some ways I probably am, but I've been wondering lately, why do we refer to "falling" in love? To me it sounds like you are being duped, does it not?

This whole notion of "falling" for someone, is this just being fooled? I feel that far too many times in my life I "fell" for it, and now I am suspicious. As in "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

What do you think?

Because you tumble from the heady heights of logic and reason to the land of floating hearts and 7th heaven...? you go head over heels?

Guaranteed you sometimes come to earth with a bump... but at times you land on cloud 9.....

I guess the butterflies in the tummy have a similar feeling to going over a steep drop.....

Hmm, interesting. You'll have to pardon me, I've forgotten what its like to be in love because its been a very long time for me.

So the butterfly feeling you get in your stomach is the same feeling you get when you are taking a steep drop like a roller coaster?

Kind of. Like anything else, it's a risk. It's like the moment when the gambler bet every penny he has on 28-Black and the croupier has just released the ball, or the skydiver that has just stepped out of the door. It's the point of no return. That's the feeling. It's the combination of exhiliration and fear; knowing that this will either turn out very, very good, or very very bad. But either way, you're in for the ride.

Just like falling, you have no control on your emotions now. We don't all walk around with that goofy, grade 9/I-just-got-laid grin by choice, ya know! (You know - this grin! :D)
