Men and Women and Porn and Strip Clubs

Oh man, 95% of women read trashy romance novels or will read one at least once in their life, I bet!

Good call in bringing this up...

They really AREN'T that much different.

Just one is used to stimulate visually.

The other mentally.

I'm not gonna lie, I think trashy romances are MORE of a turn on than porn.

I don't really pay attention to the story though...I usually skip to the sex!

Kind of the same as my porn though...I skip all the crap at the beginning getting to know the girl, and go straight for the sexiest scene.

Maybe I'm just weird, hahahaha.

<3 Porn!

I am a women and I have never read a trashy romance novel. They are so boring and unrealistic to me I really don't understand the point in them. However I don't see how they are similar to porn.

I don't think alot of women masturbate to the guy in the romance novel although I could be wrong since I have never and will never read one. I'm not really into the fake over the top wussy guys in their.

I don't really care about porn though as long as my SO doesn't tell me he thinks the porn chicks are better then me or doesn't stop having sex with me. Strip clubs are a completely different thing though. I won't get into that though in this thread.

This rational perspective you are talking about is your own perspective. It isn't the only valid way to evaluate things.

fair enough, possibly bad choice of words.

how about if I amend that to "she was incapable of evaluating the issue objectively"?

I think the reason she thinks they are similar is because, like porn it IS very unrealistic.. there is a lot of sex in a lot of the books. She may be talking about the erotica.

If you have never read one, then yes it would be hard to understand how they are similar. Trashy romance erotica is extremely descriptive, and for many women, can be a huge turn on. For some women (myself included), more so than porn.

I would suggest looking into some of Anne Rice's books, from before she started the vampire chronicles. She had a different pen name, but still wrote great literature (erotica) during that time; most of which included VERY steamy descriptions of hot sex.

I would recommend reading some of it if you're not into trashy romance novels.. her erotica is enough to make even some of the most devious blush.. and the story lines aren't bad at all. :o

It still means the same thing.;)

Gambling, porn, alcohol, etc. can all become addictive. Obviously, it will not happen to all, not even the majority of users, but the risk is there.

It's just that I don't think that there is an objective perspective in such cases about what to do with that knowledge. Some people don't like to take chances, the risk is simply too high for them where others aren't the least bit concerned.

Your mother had to live through one gambling problem already, and maybe she is now worried that this could happen to you too.

Or look at a dating situation. A woman who had an ex that was an alcoholic (and might even have been abusive while drunk) will probably think twice about dating a man that likes to get drunk every now and then. If she entirely stays away from guys who drink, she won't have to worry about the problems that come with an alcoholic partner.

The same can be said about porn. Maybe for you, such an approach is too cautious and seems unnecessary and/or irrational but that doesn't mean that it is the wrong approach for those people.

Agree that statement. They are all fiction, they are all make-believe. Why is one type of fiction more "powerful" then the other? I don't know. I'm not sure about other people, but I have this ability, it's called differentiating between fiction and reality. I'm starting to think maybe it's so rare that it's a super power.

I would suggest looking into some of Anne Rice's books, from before she started the vampire chronicles. She had a different pen name, but still wrote great literature (erotica) during that time; most of which included VERY steamy descriptions of hot sex.

Here's a story: so I was rooming with a couple of chicks at the time. One of them is an Anne Rice fan. So after Interview with a Vampire I started borrowing her Anne Rice books. This one time, I happened to pick up this book called Belinda. The story developed into some sort of affair between a 40 year old dude and a 16 year old chick. Illegal I thought to myself. I bet the 16 year old chick is really a 400 year old vampire. I kept reading and reading, no vampires, no supernatural stuff, no one got killed... I was like wait a minute... this is pedo erotica!!! So I quietly put the book back on her shelf.

I don't understand the bolded part. Could you please try to explain it to me in a different way?

It was really just to illustrate a point. I don't undestand why men think it's so much fun or great to their partner to sit there getting turned on by other women in porn and then turn around and expect her to want him to be intimate with her! WTF. Why don't men actually try engaging with their partner instead of being lazy and sitting infront of the tv like an idiot letting someone else do the work to turn *them* on and then expecting their parters to smile and spread her legs. even though the boner he just got had nothing to do with his partner. It had to do with the fake breasted teenager he just viewed in the movie .Oh but that's right ladies! Shut up and sit down and just smile and be ready to spread your legs because who cares about you.

As far as fake and 18 years old is concerned. A skinny teenager with two balloon-sized implants is not attractive to me. I prefer women around my own age (30) with some meat on their bones.

Fine it's not attractive to you but apparently it's attractive to alot of men to be the standard. But again that's okay because who really gives a **** about the woman. I mean, a woman can have a man's kids, grow old with him and the possibility of him looking at porn of teenagers-young 20s is about 90% higher then not. And then men sit there and wonder why their wives don't feel like having sex or don't feel sexy. Gee, could it be because the message is she isn't, even from the man that suppose to love her the most. If men really wanted women to be sexually liberated, they would encourage women in ways that were abject from a male domianted fantasy. It's not really about celebrating women's sexuality as it is celebrating what *he* want's women's sexuality to be defined by said over the top porn movies.

Regarding the fantasy. I am sure you can draw conclusions based on a man's fantasy. The thing is, fantasies are different from man to man. There is so much different porn.

There are stardard classic fantasies that that pertain to the masses and most men aren't looking at porn of women their age. That much is clear. But again, women are still suppose to be super confident and in control and not have any needs of their own right guys?

The guys in porn have a big d*cks. I don't. Like that didn't bother me...

And that is a myth perpuated by men for men. It doesn't change the fact that most porn is male dominated and is about women playing into a stereotyped role about all our inherent insecurities about our bodies and what role we play in our man's life. And I hate to tell you but far more often then not the men in porn are fat, old, hairy, ugly at a more regular rate then the women are allowed to be. You're one reference is not the same thing as all the stereotypes men buy into taht it sells about women.

Hence, porn concentrates on and in many cases is reduced to catering to the man's arousal.

Didn't I say this previously? That is why I believe you can tell alot about men from porn. The core of things that perhaps men try to cover up. That is why *YOU* and other men don't have to deal with porn in terms that many women have to face everyday and realize they come up short agaisnt the ideal youthful energetic fantasy men want, even their own man.

And no ED issues, making the woman cum, etc. is a fantasy. In reality, the woman fakes the orgasm for the camera and if the guy can't keep it up, they cut that part and don't show it in the movie. In a perfect world, I would never come too soon, I would make my woman orgasm every time. Aren't fantasies supposed to be positive?

That is why I said before that men don't have to deal with porn on the same level as women do. Of course it's positive for a man. But since YOU even said that it caters to what men like, it's not very positive about the real women out there that wouldn't mind if their men showed the same sportsmenship towards her that many men seem more readily to show to their pornography.

That doesn't mean that I have forgotten that porn isn't how things are in the real world, nor is the fantasy better. They are simply different things.

That's exactly it. He gets the real woman that loves him and all the fake porn chicks to fantize about.

I can only speak for myself here, but I don't want a gf to act "porn-starish"

Alot of men do and compliemtn their woman when she does.

In general, I agree with you. The thing is, the porn I watch is basically what used to be my fantasy as a teenager long before I ever watched porn or had sex. One woman and one man. No name-calling, no rough treatment. It's fairly innocent, or at least I think so.

Either way, you are still using other women to get off too. You are supporting and industry that I think is more times then not , derogatory to women. there are alot of men out there that DO look at porn that calls women names and is rought. But again, I know some guys here will argue it's okay to great women like that.

I wouldn't be devastated if there would be no more porn.

That's what alot of guys claim yet make jokes about their porn use or defend it to the death or prattle on about how hot the women are. I bet more men are more addicted to it then they care to admit to themselves. The fact that it's something you can get in the privacy or your own home is a big factor about why porn really is an epidemic across the world that most people can and do keep hidden.

I do not believe that all men want porn to have an escape from reality to live out their misogynistic fantasy where women are nothing but willing holes and can be called sl*ts, wh*res or b*tches.

But that is exactly what porn is. Where women are nothing but willing holes as you put it because you said yuorself porn caters mostly to men and porn is certainly not about treating women with respect or about thinking about what women really want. Please name one thing that porn has contributed positively to society? And I can list 10 negatives.

How many men do you think are actually sitting in front of their computer instead of interacting with a real woman?

More now today then ever. More then men are willing to admit to. More then society is caring to admit to.

Maybe a tiny fraction of the men in a relationship prefer porn over their SO. I am fairly certain that the vast majority of men who are in a relationship prefer to interact with their SO.

With porn being a billion dollar industry, How can you say that's "tiny". With all the women here that have posted issues with me and porn, and the millions more all over the interent, it's not "tiny".

And as far as sinlge men like myself are concerned. It doesn't really matter since there is no SO, don't you think?

Jersey Shortie, maybe it is some kind of brain flood that is just natures way of getting things done.

Women have a different cocktail of chemicals working on their brains, and a notable one is the maternal instinct. Why don't guys have a very strong maternal instinct? How hard would it be for you to try and ignore it or make it go away?

And yup, there will always exceptions to rule in both men and women.

You know something, I'm convinced. I'm giving up porn.

I know what I'll do. I'll stop watching porn and stop masturbating. If I'm not getting any sex, I'll just wait until I get backed up enough to have a wet dream, like when I was a teen. That way, I can watch AND star in a porn in my brain while I'm asleep and shoot my load that way. Sure, I'll be "degrading" females by having sex with them, but they won't be real, willing actresses who get paid for it like in real life. In fact, they'll probably be women I know and have either had sex with or want to have sex with. Next time I see one of the hot little 22 year old women I know, I'll have to thank her for offering up her sweet little body for me to pound, and for sexing her co-ed friend while I watch. I'll let her know how much they loved it and how many times she told me "don't stop!"

Yeah, who needs porn!

Also, in addition to banning porn, we should ban those chauvinist nature videos on Discovery Channel. The ones where the male lion practically forces himself on the female, then skips town. Or the alpha male chimp that nails the whole every female in the clan. Those films are degrading to females, who are objectified as nothing more than willing holes to be filled.

To all women with this problem:

Stop dating men who identify with chimps!

Problem solved.

Look around - there are human males around ready to share human experiences with you. Leave the chimps alone; let them sit in front of their computers, pretending to “nail the whole every female in the clan.” :lmao:

You know, I just thought about your maternal instinct comparison, and it just doesn't work at all. I don't feel that instinct toward other children. I would feel it toward my own child, definitely, and very strongly so, but as for other children, I can think they are cute, but that's it. So if you turn this analogy around again on porn, what does it mean? That it's just another argument in favor of us, the anti-porn-crowd. Because men just don't think other women are attractive, no they take it further and fantasize about what she looks naked, undress her and **** her mentally. And indulge in that via porn. So your comparison with the maternal instinct would only work if men just noticed other women objectively and don't take it any further than that and put their OWN woman as the highest priority, above all other women. Or would any mother put other children before her own? Certainly not. Since men don't do that, and since they watch porn as a further proof of the "their partner isn't the only one", your comparison is lame, weak and not accurate.

Jersey, I apologize for not responding sooner. It wasn't on purpose, I didn't have enough time to respond promptly to such an extensive post and then I eventually forgot about this thread.

It was really just to illustrate a point. I don't undestand why men think it's so much fun or great to their partner to sit there getting turned on by other women in porn and then turn around and expect her to want him to be intimate with her! WTF.

Thanks for explaining it to me. WTF indeed. I wasn't aware that there are men who expect that.

I don't believe that this is how most men are. Most men do care about their SO's feelings. We (men) might not always do a good job at sensing/guessing what those feelings are, but we certainly care about our SO's feelings.

It's true, there is a standard. Young, often blond and probably with breast implants. That however, is not much different from what we see in other aspects of our lives. On TV, in ads, magazines, etc.

The standard (for both men and women) is ambitious, fit, good-looking, young, etc. Women have more pressure as far as looks are concerned, men have other standards that they are expected to live up to.

If men really wanted women to be sexually liberated, they would encourage women in ways that were abject from a male domianted fantasy. It's not really about celebrating women's sexuality as it is celebrating what *he* want's women's sexuality to be defined by said over the top porn movies.

True again, if men wouldn't watch it, there would be no porn. And that includes how women are portrayed in those movies. So there has to be some truth to what you say. The thing is, I don't know how much market research they do for those movies. Or if they do customer surveys.

Granted, they obviously know which of their movies sell better than others. But many guys probably don't pay for porn. Instead, from what is out there, they pick the movie which is most to there liking and ignore and simply don't watch what they don't like.

Maybe I am too naive about the problems. I also have no idea who and where all the men are that frequent prostitutes. Prostitution is not illegal in my country and the estimated number of men who visit prostitutes are shocking.

But I digress. I agree with you, porn is not about celebrating women's sexuality. That being said, what exactly is women's sexuality? There are women out there who enjoy porn, some women have rape fantasies. I don't think they would want to be raped in RL.

I don't think that men in general want all their fantasies and all the porn they view to become reality.

There are stardard classic fantasies that that pertain to the masses and most men aren't looking at porn of women their age. That much is clear. But again, women are still suppose to be super confident and in control and not have any needs of their own right guys?

If one of your needs is that your SO doesn't watch porn, then make that need known and let potential partners make their choice based on that.

He can go along with it and stop watching porn or he can walk away. Just as you can walk away if he insists on watching porn.

And that is a myth perpuated by men for men.

I am not so sure about that.

The guy is certainly not the reason why I watch porn. As a result, how he looks is not important. I simply ignore the guy and focus on the woman.

I was talking about porn from the perspective of a single man. You are mainly concerned about what message the porn use of a man within a relationship sends to his SO. At least for me, that is a huge difference.

I also want to add one thing. Men face problems too. There are expectations men have to deal with and live up to. Porn isn't really amongst them. But there are expectations nonetheless. From society as a whole and from women in particular. Men do not have a worry-free life within a relationship.

I can tell you from personal experience that there is a huge difference in the way women look at you and respond to you when you are in good shape vs. being chubby, to say nothing about when you become obese.

Porn requires no effort but I guess you were referring to the time and energy men put into defending their porn use.

And I am sure that a man will go to great lengths to defend his woman should someone speak badly of her.

That's exactly it. He gets the real woman that loves him and all the fake porn chicks to fantize about.

If that is the reason why the guy watches porn, then yes. However, nobody says women have to be okay with that.

I also understand the problem that poses. If the guy says he watches porn, but not for that reason, you won't believe him. You will think he just says that so he can keep doing what he is doing.

The only thing you can do is eliminate all men that won't give up porn for you. You can certainly try to change a man's mind, but that won't work in most cases.

Alot of men do and compliemtn their woman when she does.

That's something a couple has to decide for themselves. People have different sexual needs and turn-ons.

Either way, you are still using other women to get off too. You are supporting and industry that I think is more times then not , derogatory to women. there are alot of men out there that DO look at porn that calls women names and is rought. But again, I know some guys here will argue it's okay to great women like that.

True, I still look at porn and I wouldn't want my sister to become a porn star.

There are many things that could and should be different in this world. I also live in and am part of a society that has little concern for children in the Third World who are starving and a society that makes it hard for those countries to overcome centuries of exploitation. To say nothing of standing idly by when there is another war going on while we then debate at which point we have to call it a Genocide in which case we might actually have to do something about it.

I buy fair trade products and I donate money but that is nothing more than a drop in the ocean. I don't care enough about those starving kids to lose sleep over them or join an NPO and work the rest of my life for free.

My mom would have bitten my head off if she had found a playboy under my bed when I was a teenager and it would have been very difficult to hide it from my mother. And flipping through a "Playboy" once was out of curiousity.

Things have changed though with computers and easy access to porn. It is a lot easier for a teenager to keep it hidden from his mom or later in his life from his GF. The availability of porn to minors is a serious problem.

I am not addicted to porn, there are times when I don't watch it at all for weeks. And I have never watched porn (nor did I miss it) in a relationship, not even during an at times LDR/weekend relationship.

But that is exactly what porn is. Where women are nothing but willing holes as you put it because you said yuorself porn caters mostly to men and porn is certainly not about treating women with respect or about thinking about what women really want. Please name one thing that porn has contributed positively to society? And I can list 10 negatives.

I don't think that porn is made to make society better. Men are the target audience for porn. And the majority uses it as a masturbation tool. Which means in most cases, there is no woman directly involved. Of course it's going to be selfish and lopsided.

There is no reason to, nor does it make sense to make a non-existent woman the focus of my efforts when I watch porn. Jerking off to porn and having sex are very different things. When I am alone, there simply is no woman around to respect (or disrespect for that matter).

The great appeal about giving pleasure to a woman is to feel, smell, taste, hear and watch her reactions to what I am doing with her, what we are doing together. Porn can never replace that, it doesn't even get close. What porn can do is give a vague recollection of real sex, it's a visual aid. It provides images, and creates anticipation that would otherwise be created by my imagination.

More now today then ever. More then men are willing to admit to. More then society is caring to admit to.

I should have asked how many of those men chose to live like that because they actually prefer it over a real relationship.

I am one of the guys sitting in front of his computer, and no, having access to porn doesn't make me happy.

With porn being a billion dollar industry, How can you say that's "tiny". With all the women here that have posted issues with me and porn, and the millions more all over the interent, it's not "tiny".

That depends on the point of view and what exactly it is that bothers you.

Does the porn use of single men bother you because it supports an industry that you consider to be demeaning towards women? That problem won't be easily solved.

If you are complaining about men in relationships who watch porn despite the concerns and feelings of their SOs, then that can easily be solved. The women in these relationships need to dump those men.

And yes, I do think the number of relationships who suffer from that particular problem is tiny, in comparison to the relationships where porn isn't an issue.

Obviously, women like you who experience(d) these problems in their relationships are negatively affected by it. However, the amount of men who watch porn doesn't matter, nor does it matter how many other couples are dealing with the same problems. You'd still have the same problems if your guy is the only man on the planet who watches porn.

What I do understand is the annoyance you must feel when you are being told that you should just get over it and accept men's porn use. The truth is, you don't have to accept it.

Hey Stock, why don't you just use your imagination then if it's not much different? What's the big appeal about porn?

I don't always use porn but sometimes, I am simply too lazy and I opt for porn instead of using my imagination. Besides, my imagination is currently impaired. I used to think about my sex life with first gf, even though we split up years ago. But she died last year and I can no longer use that memory/fantasy.

And I also have a female friend that I have a crush on and I am tempted to incorporate her into my fantasies. However, I don't think it would be okay to do that, so it's less imagination and a bit more porn for me than it used to be.

The appeal of porn? It's been a long time IRL since I have seen a woman naked, so it's nice to see one every now and then, even when it's only in a porn movie.

It just boils down to those who want to restrict freedom versus those who choose to exercise it.

To those who want to eliminate our freedom to enjoy porn: I don't come down to your house and slap the dick out of YOUR mouth. Worry about your private life, not mine.

Sam, no one here said Ban porn. If they did, I could understand your argument actually. However, in this context, I don't really get it. I don't like porn and i don't think it's healthy but I don't think it should be banned either.

One could even argue that porn is a restriction on true sexual exploriation. Because if someone is just copying what they see in porn, how much of that is really "new" or different.

You have a point there..

No matter the argument, I doubt you will change your mind. It sounds like your g/f doesn't want you to watch porn/go to strip clubs but you find it okay. You both should come to a conclusion, because it will only harm your relationship even further into the future.

I agree afternoon tea...

I think Trialbyfire said it best, if you're not into the porn/strip club thing then don't date someone that is. If you and your SO have differences on the subject and there is no compromise, then walk. I really think it's that simple. Life in general is complicated enough..
