I'm listening to a lot of The Smiths and Morrissey. That always cheered me up.

I very much like the Smiths and Morrissey but cannot imagine they would perk or cheer you up!!

Haha, especially not Morrissey. o.o

That would just make me feel worse, but I guess everyone has their own opinions.

I really suggest checking out the band "Motion City Soundtrack"

They're a really upbeat band which make even the saddest thing seem upbeat.

Those songs don't life me up! Especially Hallelujah. But for the record on that song, Leonard Cohen wrote it, John Cale (of the Velvet Underground) performed a cover that influenced Jeff Buckley, who really made it famous. John Cale's version is what was in the Movie Shrek; Rufus Wainwright's version was released on the soundtrack only because he was affiliated with Dreamworks and Cale was not. It was easier that way.

Q: How many hipsters does it take to screw in a light bulb?

A: Some obscure number, you probably wouldn't know it anyway.

I know I'm in the minority but I actually prefer Rufus's version to Buckley's (though both are great). I saw him perform it live and it was pretty amazing.

You have good taste!...I think you mentioned you were a Fugazi fan in another thread. The lead singer is my bf's cousin.

For those having a rough time, music to me was a big part of my healing - either songs that were apt to the situation or songs that were upbeat or funny helped me loads so I wanted to pass on some that might lift others a little as I am pretty much healed now. :D

I made myself a feel good playlist in my itunes and this is some of its content....

Hung up - Madonna

Nothing gonna break my stride - Matthew Wilder

Your History - Shakespears Sister

Defining Gravity - India Menzal

I'm doin fine now - New York City

I don't need a man - Pussycat Dolls

Shine - Luthor Vandross (Freemasons Mix)

I don't feel like dancin - Scissor Sisters

Rule the World - Take That

I have more will add later. Anyone have any good ones?

Music has always been intense and emotional for me. I wallow for a while then switch to upbeat. Top breakup songs are

Audioslave - What You Are

Alice in Chains - Them Bones

Paramore - That's What You Get/Born For This

Modest Mouse -Spitting Venom

Muse - Hate This and I'll Love You

Smashing Pumpkins - Soma/Drown

Silversun Pickups - Common Reactor

Trapt - Waiting

Sugarcult - Made a Mistake

To get me going again

Bad Religion - Sorrow

Social Distortion - Ball and Chain

Silversun Pickups - Checkered Floor

Modest Mouse - People as Places

Coheed and Cambria - A Favor House Atlantic

Smashing Pumpkins - Hummer

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Make You Feel Better

The Mars Volta - Cicatriz Esp

I dunno... I like intense, energetic music, whether it's depressed or upbeat. I'm a music snob... don't get me started.
