Lyssa Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 I listen to sad sad songs in general. It's the cowboy in me. That's why I'm taking hip hop dance. I meet cute girls, the music gets the anger out of me, and this white boy finally learns some moves. That's great! I'm almost done with my belly-dance lessons, thinking of taking up 'Capoeira' next! Here's another three songs: Who Knew - Pink Tattoo - Jordin Sparks You - Switchfoot
Ocean-Blue Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Hurt - Johnny Cash (cover) Better than Me - Hinder Hallelujah - Rufus Wainwright The Drugs Don't Work - The Verve I Feel You - Schiller Mit Heppner
alwayshurt Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 I try no to listen to songs, especially if sad/love songs that remind me what I lost. I get more depressed.
oppath Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Hurt - Johnny Cash (cover) Better than Me - Hinder Hallelujah - Rufus Wainwright The Drugs Don't Work - The Verve I Feel You - Schiller Mit Heppner Those songs don't life me up! Especially Hallelujah. But for the record on that song, Leonard Cohen wrote it, John Cale (of the Velvet Underground) performed a cover that influenced Jeff Buckley, who really made it famous. John Cale's version is what was in the Movie Shrek; Rufus Wainwright's version was released on the soundtrack only because he was affiliated with Dreamworks and Cale was not. It was easier that way. Q: How many hipsters does it take to screw in a light bulb? A: Some obscure number, you probably wouldn't know it anyway.
Trialbyfire Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 You Oughta Know - Alanis Morisette Big Bang Baby - Stone Temple Pilots

I think I misread the title of this thread (clearly I missed the "perked" part). As for Hallelujah, right, Cohen wrote it. The version I usually listen to is the RW version. I'm not sure what your quote is saying... It's late and my head hurts. Want to explain?
oppath Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Hipsters are people who memorize obscure music history. They dress like musicians, they may even play an instrument, but they aren't musicians. It would be like if I invited you over to my house to watch Taxi Driver; that would not make me Martin Scorsese. They typically throw out some obscure bit of knowledge and then seem aghast that you don't know. Thus the joke. How many hipsters does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Some obscure number, you probably wouldn't know it anyway. The joke is about a hipster, and it uses a hipster answer.

cant let go Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 And pretty much anything from Avril Lavigne, lol. agree I heard "My Happy Ending" yesterday and it pretty much sums up everything I am feeling right now. I won't say that any music really "perks me up" these days. Most songs are written when people are sad. It's mostly the angry bitter ones that temporarily make me feel better. If you like Avril and you like Country music, try Taylor Swift. She is pretty much the country version of Avril.
