Need help moving forward in a potential relationship

Recommended Posts

I'm in my early 20's, and have never been in any sort of relationship. Any time I've ever gone out with someone, it's been at their request/insistence, aside from things like college formals where I've done the asking. I'm a nice guy, but not outgoing at all.

Right now, I'm really interested in someone who as of yet, hasn't shut the door on me. I've been out to lunch with her (we got together purely by chance and had a pretty good time), and we've chatted amiably over the phone, but never about a relationship. It hasn't come up. We just talk about our respective lives and families. I've been down this path before - if I stay on it, we'll have a few more phone calls, be friendly with each other, and that will be the end of it. I need a way to break out of this rut.

The problem is, I have no idea where to start. She has a ton of friends, many of them guys, one who she's known since her early childhood, and sometimes I feel like I'm trying to break into a life that's already full. I know that the moment we'd go beyond talking on the phone I'd be subjected to the gauntlet of her friends and family. Basically, I keep looking for reasons not to move forward because I don't know what will happen if we get to the next step. I'm ready to take the chance, but need help getting there.

So, bottom line, I need advice. Any is appreciated. Thank you-

Tell her how you feel?

I don't know, it's funny because I am in the exact same position you are, I met this girl by chance, we've gone to lunch a few times, and she has expressed some interest, but I don't know if she just wants to be friends with me.

She talks about other guys and stuff like that a little.

Something I don't know if I have the guts to do, but needs to be done is tell her your feelings, ask her out on a date, or something like that.

"Would you like to go out to lunch with me" is different from "Do you want to spend together this weekend, maybe go out to dinner" or something like that.

So I'd tell you to tell her how you feel.

Best of luck!!
