midori
Nice shoes. That could be a wide range of things, some guys are conservative, others go for more funky stuff. I can't make many specific recommendations (I haven't made a study of men's shoes) but if you're interested here are some things I recommend avoiding: Birkenstock sandals Teva sandals Leather moccasins with white socks Any shoes with white socks (except sneakers) Timberland boots (or any other heavy workboot) with anything but jeans White sneakers, especially big clunky white sneakers, anywhere but to the basketball court or gym. This includes partially white sneakers. Basketball-type sneakers (or whatever they're called) are not neat, charming or sexy. Men have it pretty easy where shoes are concerned -- no one asks you to engage in foot contortion to look good. When in doubt, a nice pair of black or brown Doc Martens is usually a good bet -- but not the lace-up boots that go up to mid-calf. I like the high-tech looking sneaker/clog/sandal type things that have come out in the last couple of years. While I'm on the subject, may I again emphasize how AWFUL I think pleated chinos look? On anyone.
clia
I agree with Midori, except that I don't mind Birkenstocks or Tevas in the summer, without socks, as long as they aren't completely worn out and funky looking, and as long as they have a strap across the back. (I hate it when guys wear open backed shoes...I think those are a little too girlie.) Like Midori said, when in doubt, go for a pair of Doc Marten lace-ups, but not the boots. Those always look solid with jeans or khakis. There are a lot of examples...also avoid shoes with any kind of tassle, even with suits. Just go for something that is a nice leather. Shell out the $100 or so and get a nice pair of leather shoes. Invest in one brown pair and one black pair. I'm personally a fan of Kenneth Cole's shoes for guys. If you have any girl friends who you think have good taste, or even a girl friend at work who you sort of know, ask them to go shopping with you to pick out a pair of shoes. I'm always flattered when a guy asks me that, and I don't mind going at all. Nice shoes. That could be a wide range of things, some guys are conservative, others go for more funky stuff.
