polywog Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 I've seen lots of references to music on LS posts. What are your favorite break-up, kiss-off, etc. songs? Wallowing in self pity and crying in your beer tunes? Right now I am fond of "Walking on a Wire" by Richard and Linda Thompson.
guin_girl Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 What are your favorite break-up, kiss-off, etc. songs? Wallowing in self pity and crying in your beer tunes? Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats".... so defines my last couple breakups!! If only I was vindictive enough to pull it off.
HGP Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Good crying in your beer type songs for my situation Coldplay - Warning Sign You were an island and I passed you by You were an island to discover Pearl Jam - Black I know someday you'll have a beautiful life I know you'll be the sun in somebody else's sky but why, why, why can't it be mine
the_total_package Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 It's sort of my theme song lately, I am the confident, beautiful woman she is referring to in the song who doesn't need a man for happiness.
sb129 Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 I tried not to listen to anything sentimental when I split up with ex. I rocked out and CELEBRATED!
Star Gazer Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Pearl Jam's "Black" - oh lordy. "Losing My Religion" by R.E.M. "Burn" by Usher. The song for AFTER the breakup, when you realize how happy and content you are: "In Terms of Love" by SHeDAISY.
tanbark813 Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Yeah, "Black" is a good one. If I'm pissed off about the breakup (i.e., she cheated) then nothing tops "Pac Bell" by (HED)PE. Crank that s**t up.

Cossette4 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I find myself liking songs that appeared in pivotal points of movies, tv shows, and musicals, maybe because someone has already linked the song with the idea of "what goes around comes around," "this is a whole new beginning," "everything turns out okay in the end," etc. So they are.... "Bittersweet Symphony" by the Verve......Remember the end of Cruel Intentions when everyone discovers the sister is a druggie at the funeral and it's like oooh...what now. So when the song plays I envision something awesome like going through a fast food drive thru with my future fiancee and seeing my ex flipping burgers or something sweet like that. "Breathe Me" By Sia.....This was the song playing during the season finale of Six Feet Under. (If you haven't seen this series, RENT IT because it is amazing.) But it's playing while Claire is driving off into the sunset and it's all about the full life she has ahead of her, so that makes me feel better.) "Defying Gravity" by Elphaba from Wicked.....Again, if you haven't seen Wicked, GO (Chicago or New York). And it's just basically a song about independence and how no one can ever bring you down if you are a strong enough person, even when the odds are against you. This post makes me want to charge my ipod....
ratingsguy Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I can't listen to any music after I've been dumped. Too many songs will make me emotional.
MotherGooze Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I listen to doom metal when I was dumped, it cheered me up!

oh_what_am_I_doing Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Oh, I'm glad you brought this up! What happened to me when my ex and I broke up is a really weird story, musically speaking. A few days after we called it splits, I went to a comedy club which is kind of like Saturday night live where they do skit comedy and also have a live band that plays in between skits. One of the songs was "Set them Free" by Sting. I had never heard that song before but as I listened to the words, it seemed like the song was being sung to me. Ok, that in and of itself wasn't weird, but then the very next day at the grocery store, that song was playing over the loudspeaker!!! So at that point, I looked it up and found out it was by Sting. THEN about a week later I was flipping radio stations in the car, and it was on AGAIN. At that point I was like, "Yeah I'm over it already, I don't need to hear this song again!" I had never heard it ever in my life, then three times in one week. Weird!

HGP Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 The Dears have some gloomy music but it's uplifting at the same time and puts me in good mood Lost in the Plot 22: The Death of All the Romance *tearjerker alert*
Guest Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Anything by the British band Keane will get you through a breakup. It's working for me, slowly but surely.
SHMILY Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 When I miss him, I listen to Mariah Carey's "Don't forget about us". When I hate him, I listen to Madonna's "Sorry". When I realize it's over forever, I listen to The All-American Rejects' "It ends tonight". Btw, Coldplay's "Warning sign" is a good one too!!!
Zoo Station Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Nazareth - Love Hurts Mariah Carey - Just to hold you once again Green Day - Boulevard of Broken Dreams U2 - With or Without You Supertramp - Even In the Quietest Moments Supertramp - Don't Leave Me Now (I really like this one)
Vincent21212 Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 all of John Mayer and Keane, whether it be breaking up or healing, this music brings everything together
