FallenTree Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 I know that people have talked about the DVD and/or book called the Secret here before. The authors/creators of this concept were on Oprah today. Someone said something that is something I really need to take seriously... "To gain something new, you have to let go of something old." For example, holding on to that ex bf isn't going to help me much, duh. Anyway, I really should rent this DVD. I keep hearing great things.
blind_otter Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 I've seen "The Secret". My boyfriend's father gave us a copy. It was OK. It kind of reminded my of an infomercial, though.
CaliGuy Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 "To gain something new, you have to let go of something old." For example, holding on to that ex bf isn't going to help me much, duh. This is why I say you can not be friends with someone you are in love with. You won't let go of them.
Pyro Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 So, WTF is the secret?? If you knew, then it wouldn't be a secret.....dork.
whichwayisup Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 If you knew, then it wouldn't be a secret.....dork. You're a funny duck!
Pyro Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 You're a funny duck! Gonzo is not a duck. He is either a bird or a chicken.
Author FallenTree Posted February 9, 2007 Author Posted February 9, 2007 Agreed, Caliguy. Definitely. I don't know what the total "secret" is honestly, but I see how it could be like an infomercial haha. It's basically positive thinking, from what I gathered. I could be wrong though.
guin_girl Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Gonzo is not a duck. He is either a bird or a chicken. hmmmm isn't a chicken a bird? My cockatiel is named Gonzo.... but apparently the vet was wrong and he's a she... the egg she dropped was a dead giveaway
Pyro Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 hmmmm isn't a chicken a bird? My cockatiel is named Gonzo.... but apparently the vet was wrong and he's a she... the egg she dropped was a dead giveaway A chicken is a bird. I am just being giving WWIU sh*t.
the_alchemyst Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 So, WTF is the secret?? You could say it is a type of theory that tries to present you with the "secret" of how to live a better. Or something like that. From what I can understand, it revolves around the "Law of Attraction" mostly, which boils down to "you are responsible for everything that happens to you." I saw the movie some few months ago with a friend, and I found it to be a disappointment.
Arazi1982 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I was very low (in an unrequited love situation at the time) a few months back and saw this movie - it really picked me up at the time (I watched it multiple times) and I was extremely positive about it. Since then, life and my feelings have settled down somewhat and I don't regard The Secret with such high praise now - it is what it is; a well-produced montage of people that have made a career out of of motivational speaking/writing. I don't regard that as a bad thing at all - but perhaps some find it a little easier to be enraptured by the whole "the universe controls everything" way of thinking. I'm happy I saw it nonetheless.
BUTAFLY Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I saw the last 10 min. of that episode. Looked really interesting. Can't wait for the 10pm replay. cause if there is a secret I definately need to know it.
alphamale Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 From what I can understand, it revolves around the "Law of Attraction" mostly, which boils down to "you are responsible for everything that happens to you." so basically if you become schizophrenic or get sexually molested when you're 8 yrs old then that is your own fault?
tinktronik Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Gonzo is not a duck. He is either a bird or a chicken. I thought Gonzo turned out to be an alien . Secret ... I wonder how much money was made off of the "secret"
rvj1979 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I recently got the video and book- it seems a little weird but the way I figure it is if I've only spent $65 and all I have to change, for the better, is the way I view things and to stay positive. I'm game!
Pyro Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I thought Gonzo turned out to be an alien . Secret ... I wonder how much money was made off of the "secret" An alien? Thats a new one.
tinktronik Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 An alien? Thats a new one. Off topic but (sigh) I distinctly remember watching baby muppets as a kid and aliens showed up and the all looked just like gonzo and they wanted to take Gonzo back with them because he was one of them but he did not go . So the book is only $65 huh'.

magichands Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Not sure how accurate this is, but anyway - Unlike most of the central Muppets characters, Gonzo is not meant to represent a human being or an anthropomorphized animal, but sports a bizarre, non-human appearance, which includes blue fur, bug-eyes, and a long, bendy nose, thought to be inspired by the acorn weevil.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonzo_%28Muppet%29 Here's an acorn weevil. http://www.forestryimages.org/browse/detail.cfm?imgnum=1394093 Side view. http://www.arkive.org/species/ARK/invertebrates_terrestrial_and_freshwater/Curculio_glandium/

F**k'n Oprah, getting everybody all worked up and the secret isn't a huge secret afterall. WTF! A chicken is a bird. I am just being giving WWIU sh*t. I love it when you give me sh*t!
Pyro Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 I love it when you give me sh*t! and I haven't even brought up hockey in a while. Should I start now? Nah, I will save it for a rainy day.
