This is a little off subject, but my doctor recommended that I have an amniocentisis because of my MM age. I have been through two other pregancies but have never had to have an amnio. I am going alone, while my sons are in school. I am scared to death about it! I am totally not into pain at all and the baby books show this huge needle...UNH! Its horrible. Any advice?

I have had an amnio. It is a huge needle . but it does not really hurt . It stinkg for a moment but is very uncomfortable and you may feel a bit nervous or nasueas durring. But nothing to worry about . Good luck.

I had one with my daughter 16 years ago, it was as the other poster said, didn't hurt, just a sting and a wierd uncomfortable feeling. It was over very quickly and I had the comfort of knowing that our premature daughter's lungs were mature enough to be born early without complications. good luck.

After the amnio are you okay to continue with your regular day? Or do you have to rest? Is the discomfort over immediately or am I going to be uncomfortable for a while? Sorry for sounding like such a coward...I dont know why it scares me like it does?

Sorry for thread-jacking Bella...but wow, I just cannot even imagine carrying a baby.

I've always said that I would LOVE to experience being pregnant. Even giving birth.

It's the whole raising a human being to be a productive member of society that freaks me out...

I feel like I hardly take care of my cat (let alone myself!)

I'm lucky to get myself to work everyday.

If I had a baby? I'd be like, oh. did you need to eat, or something?

(yes, I exaggerate to make a point. but still...)

You will probably want to rest for a while as to alliviate some minor cramping . Amnio seems to be a very scary thing , the needle is big , thats scary...but like I said there is no reason to be scared it does not really hurt.

Thank you...maybe I will just keep my eyes closed so I dont have to see the needle!

I just looked away the whole time . The dr.'s even suggested not to look at the needle . I did watch once they got the whole needle in , I was almost term , though so it was wierd , but It does not look as big once it is in.

Why isn't your MM going with you, Bella? This is his baby, too.

Privacy...my doctor knows everything (healthwise) about him just not his name. He is too afraid someone will recognize him. I doubt highly he will be there for the birth of our son, even though it is a c-section. I have requested a private room at the hospital just so he can come and visit...I know...its horrible...and it hurts me and makes me mad at the same time, but nothing I can do. You cant force someone to be somewhere...
