So, I've just been prescribed Effexor XR by my doctor. For those who don't know, it's meant to relieve symptoms of depression.

Anyhow, having never actually treated my depression before (shame on me, I know) I'm not exactly how to tell if the prescription is helping, hurting, or not doing a damn thing.

I've only been on it about a week but, I already seem to be a bit less weepy and skiddish than I have been over the past few years. However, I'm also barely eating and feel nauseated and exhausted most nights.

If anyone else is familiar with this prescription, I'd appreciate any info you can give me. I don't want to stop taking it if this is simply an adjustment period and it is helping, and I certainly don't want to keep taking it if it's just going to make complications arise.

Thanks guys!

Sometimes it takes up to a month (or longer) for meds to take full effect. What does your provider say? Are you taking meds in conjunction with therapy?

It has always baffled me when people come to a relationship forum asking for medical advice.

My understanding with these types of drugs is that they can & do behave differently. One persons experience may not necessarily equate to yours. The person you need to be talking to is your doctor.

Report your symptoms to your doctor -and as a general rule of thumb, there's an adjustment period with most meds of this type, and except for the most serious side effects, you keep taking them unless your doctor says so.

I used to trust doctors. Until my doctor overmedicated me with the drug Effexor. That is a wicked drug. Devil in a bottle. I took it for 7 months and I had bad withdrawal symptoms when I tried to quit it. Almost couldn't. I still have bad memory problems to this day.

Wish I would've done some research on the drug, and not whole-heartedly trusted my doctor.

To this day, I will never take any kind of medication until I have researched it somehow. Wether it be internet, forums, friends,...whatever.
