Any body language experts out there

Cute guy who i encounter sometimes, acquaintances really, if we see each other lately we greet each other with a 2 handed wave.

Don't know who started it.

Any idea of what it could mean?

I guess he's happy to see me.

But how happy

Thinking of asking him out

Boy oh boy haven't done THAT in years.

With two hands? Thats a first.

He may be interested or he is just being polite. Thats not enough info to tell if he likes you. I suggest striking up a convesation with him and see where it goes.

Yep, P hit the nail on the head. I was thinking the same thing.

I thought sterotyping the gay community went out in the last century

alas i should have known better than to expect a mature response here.

Hey call it immature if you want. You asked and we answered. I really didn't see it as stereotyping necessarily. I've just never known a straight guy to wave that way...make of it what you will.

We're not stereotyping the gay community, but we are stereotyping your friend.

His actions do sound gay, but I don't know him very well.

  You're right!

Actually, my first though upon reading your caption was that maybe it was kinda like one hand clapping. A new mantra? But now I get it.

Second thought was politicians or the Queen of England wave that way to their adoring public. Make of that what you will.

Most guys never wave. They just nod their head.

That is true! It is not even quite a nod, more of a slight jerk of the chin.

The OP asked us what would the 2-wave clap pattern best identify with. That by definition is looking for a stereotype. I suggested one. What is your problem? Acting like human behaviour patterns and stereotypes is just ignorant.

I completely agree, P. (You meant acting like they don't exist is ignorant, right?)

Consider this: Ask a man to look at his nails and then ask a woman the same thing. There's a predominant way that a woman will do it. And there's a predominant way that a man will do that that is DIFFERENT than the way a woman does it.

Ask some men and women and see if it's true.

Now, it doesn't mean a man is necessarily gay if he looks at his nails the way a woman does but it CAN mean that.

So, OP..this guy of yours may not be gay. He just may have some effeminate ways about him.

I mean you DID ask us to interpret his body language but yet when we did you got mad. Sorry, you didn't like our answers but did it ever occur to you that we may be right? But then again, maybe we're wrong and he's just an effeminate straight guy...not that there's anything wrong with that either.

Yes sorry.. typo.

Oh wow I didn't realize that this is the OP who posted the comment about gay stereotyping. Some people seriously need to lighten up. Besides, her very question was ABOUT stereotypes.. stereotypes associated with waving with 2 hands. Wtf, you just got what you asked for.

While I can't say for certain that this is what your friend is doing...in deaf circles (aka groups of hearing impaired people), waving both hands means clapping, it's the easiest visual sign of joy without audio. My guess is that your friend has a deaf family member or volunteers, something along those lines and is used to using that symbol. Doesn't mean he isn't gay, but there are other explanations.
