Matt999 Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Does the fact that your partner smokes bother you? It's the one thing that my gf nags me about. I'm 23 and have been smoking cigarettes since I was 16 and don't really want to give up. I am reasonably fit and only smoke about 10 a day. I will give up at some stage but don't want to now. I'm going through a pretty stressful time at the moment so it would be a bad time to try and give up.
princessa Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Your gf wants what's best for you. I can relate because when you see future with your SO, you naturally want them to stay around for a long while. Also she might be bothered by the smell or second-hand smoke. I've been a smoker myself for years, but when I got with my ex I cherished the relationship so much that I almost gave it up for the sake of being at my best for him. He was supposed to quit smoking with me as well, but didn't really want to in the end. And I can tell it really hurts to see your SO destroying themselves like that Women can get especially protective of their partners/relationships, so try not to take the nagging in a negative way.
Art_Critic Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 You are choosing to smoke.. the rules of smoking are " If you smoke you die.. or you die of something smoking related " At 23 you have no clue to how you are profoundly affecting your older/elder years.. you won't die at 23 of cancer.. that takes a while.. Your GF knows the rules and wants what is best for you.. A pack of cigs has the warnings on the side for a reason.. believe the warnings.. they do cause cancer and being fit has little to do with getting cancer at an older age.
princessa Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 You are choosing to smoke.. the rules of smoking are " If you smoke you die.. or you die of something smoking related " .. says the clown with the cigarette in his mouth.... haha sorry you set yourself up
quankanne Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 not really in a place to condemn, as I've got a husband with a habit as old as I am! He knows I don't like smelling smoke on him because it aggravates my allergies, so he's pretty good about washing his face and spraying on a scent that absorbs the smell. And he's really conscientious about not smoking in small closed in spaces, which I really appreciate. I know it's bad for him and I want him to kick the habit, but only when HE feels ready to do so. Nagging him about his habit only drags things out. to be honest, I'd much rather put up with a nicotine addiction than an alcohol one – too many cigarattes doesn't turn my husband into a flaming *sshole ...
LaughMachine Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 I used to smoke alot more when I didn't have anxiety. But after I eat when I feel more comfortable since my belly is full I smoke after I eat. I had a bestfriend once who thought smoking was incredibly gross and I respected that( sometimes) and woulden't smoke around her. But since she is your gf and your around her alot I guess not smoking around her would meen stop cold turkey. Smoking since 16...now 23...7 years of smoking= smokers cough? Permently smelly nails and breath, and smoke around your girlfriend....Since she isn't a smoker I can see how she would be bothered by that alot and maybe it is time you cut down on smoking? could you?
blind_otter Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 I just quit smoking and I find the fact that my SO smokes really disgusting, now. I can smell it on him whenever he goes out for a smoke. Now he's always embarassed that he just had a cigarette. Well, good! It's good to be embarassed of doing something that is slowly killing you. You won't realize it until you're suffocating to death over the course of months at the end when you die of something smoking related. I am becoming one of those militant ex-smokers. I think it's gross and it kills you.
LaughMachine Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 It is gross and it does kill you and I'm slowly realizing that but I know when I drink there will be no way for me to pass up a cigg. bah
