ls3360 Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Hey everyone. I don't have an immediate issue, but I'd like to get everyone's take on people that don't return messages as well as understanding the other side of that situation. I know there are technical reasons why people sometimes don't answer messages. ie... you left the messages with the wrong person, the answering machine is broken, you're out of town, you get the message too late in the evening, you get the message after it's already old and irrelevant, etc. I'm not talking about that for the most part. We don't need to rehash that unless someone has some insight there. I know people have suggested dropping friends and SO's that don't return messages. Is it always rude to not answer messages? When done habitually is it always reason to drop someone as a friend or SO? Are there people out there that don't mind if their messages are not returned? Have you ever had reason to intentionally not answer messages? Why? Are there certain people that just don't answer messages and think nothing of it? Are you such a person? Does any of this differ if it's a phone msg vs txt vs email? I'd like to hear people's spin.
amaysngrace Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 If I say I'll call I'll call. And if someone calls me and is expecting a call back I call back. To leave someone hanging is just rude IMO. I wouldn't do it or tolerate it. But that's just me.
magda Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 I'm pretty bad about messages and email as well, but I don't as far as I know leave people hanging. Like if someone needs a response from me I'll give them one. Sometimes I put off getting back to people that want to just chat because I just don't know how long it will take. then I might put it off for awhile then not want to call because I figure it will take a long long time to "catch up". If you haven't talked to someone in a couple months you have to allot at least a half hour to talk, then I am wondering what is a good time to call, so it just gets pushed way back. When I was dating I'd only not return messages if I was no longer interested or if it was someone annoying. Sometimes not returning a message is the message itself.
