Is this normal?

I’ve been with this great guy for four years and he meets all my needs in every possible way. We even cautiously discuss getting married in a couple years when I get my degree.

Everything should be settled but I can’t help daydreaming about and wanting to be with another guy who I see every once and a while. It’s similar to having a crush when I was younger! I look forward to seeing this other guy and have so much fun when he’s around, but I keep my distance because I love my boyfriend. Why did I have to find the perfect guy when I'm so young?! I know some of you must roll your eyes and think I'm crazy, but I'm worried because the relationship is so serious.

Is this a sign something is going wrong or is it just something I have to learn to deal with? Any tips on how to keep my mind on my perfect boyfriend? Again I must be crazy to be having thoughts of being with other guys when I have my “prince charming”. He’s the only guy I’ve ever dated and so I don’t know what to expect. I’d greatly appreciate any advise! Thanks for reading.

It's natural when you get involved seriously at a young age to start to wonder what it would be like with someone else, especially if you haven't already had a lot of dating experience (and heartaches).

It's also natural to be attracted to or have a crush on someone even if you are happy in your relationship - you will be attracted to people your whole life! That part of you that notices other people doesn't just disappear after you decide you want to commit to someone.

BUT, you don't have to act on it, as you yourself already know. Just because you have a crush doesn't mean that you and this guy would be good together as a long term couple. Just because you have fun together, doesn't mean he would be as "perfect" for you as your bf, or you for him if you were to see each other every day and deal with all the daily crap that happens in relationshps.

Keep in mind the grass isn't always greener on the other side. There are many people who wish they had someone half as "perfect" as you have. There are many people who wish their bf's or gf's would want to get married and share a life together. There are many who spend years dating someone and still can't get their SO to commit.

I'm just trying to give you some things to think about so you don't feel like you are "missing out" on some great romance because you are with your bf.
