Does anyone believe in fate at all anymore or something giding you to life choices? I was just wondering if people out there think it is a bunch of hoopla or not.

I do believe that certian things happen for a reason, and being in the the right place at the right time.

anyone?

I believe that I'm never given more than I can handle and that things do happen for a reason. I may not like some of the things that happen in my life but I accept it and try to make the best out of it.

Define reason. Add in some Hegel-inspired philosophy and you would have a hard time arguing against this. :lmao:

This is a delusional way of thinking, and probably causes more people to make bad decisions (or cheat) in the long run.

"THERE IS NOT SUCH THING AS FATE PEOPLE"

Nothing is in control of your life but you, and incidents you want to try to attach to fate is just the natural human tendency to believe in a higher force. People who study science and socialism already know this. We americans watch to much T.V and hollywood, which always seems to portray the kind of notion fate brings. There is something comforting about the possiblity of "FATE" and "THE ONE", it's sort of some type of security that we can rest some of our decisions in some higher power that is smarter than us, but trust me that's all it is.

Cheers!

Too much fantasy isn't good for the mind, but It's good to dream and hope isn't it ( :

Wow!!! Nobody gave me any flack for my posts!!! Hmmmm. Okay, I will quote my own post.

Although I don't believe in fate (soul mates, the one, yada yada..) one bit, I still have the tendency to do so. I often catch myself wondeing if something or someone I met twice in the same day was fate. It kinda wonders aimlessly through my mind, the the intelligent thinking kicks in and I pass it off as coincidence and be on my way.

:D

i do believe in fate only in the way that means this - if u activitely engage yourself in your life, good things will happen. they will not 'come to u' but your search will take you to where the opportunity rests. i believe in fate only in the notion that positive thought and action leads to the same and that 'fate' and 'hard work' rewards those who take control of their lives and believe they are worth the gifts and love that comes with believing in yourself.

I believe in fate... One of the sayings in our home is: " Everything Happens for a Reason "...

I believe all the people we meet in life and the things we do are for a reason.

The thing that erks me at the moment and or from time to time is...

I haven't hit the lottery yet.... for good reason.... lol...

Just my input, in everything happens for a reason.

Yeah I was going to then I changed my mind then I changed it back... figuring you had the right to your scientific humbug... no just kidding...

but you have to admit yes we have choices but sometimes if you look back on events that lead up to a certian thing, like loosing a job and getting another one and meeting people that help you along the way, that were not there before and would not have been if a certian event did not happen...

I mean even science has breakthroughs and they stumble on discovery's so there could be some fate there...

Yes, I believe in fate, God or whatever you choose to call It.

There have been too many coincidences in my life to ignore that fact.

Taking God out of the equation (if that is possible), I think our decisions have all lead us to certain results. Let me explain.

Take LS for example. The reason I am here is as a results of many, many decisions I have made along the way. The reason that each of us on this thread have "met" is the result of MY decisions. Not trying to sound like the Truman Show, but there is truth to it. If I had made one small decision different along the way...for instance, not clicked on the link I chose from my search in Google for "Low Libido," then I would never have met such a neat community. (And yes, if my wife and I had had a good sex life, I would never had "needed" LS). And then there are some individuals I have had the opportunity of PMing whom I would have never met. And as a result my life would have been less enriched.

Now to take it into the world. Think about it when you reach the next stoplight. Look at the person in the car next to you. Smile and wave at them. Because you left when you did from work or home, you and that person have had an opportunity to meet in this world. When you travel to a different city on business or vacation, talk to the person at McDonalds or the gas station...this is someone whom you have been privileged to meet for this moment in time. You may never see that person again in your lifetime...stop and think about it...because neither of you will make decisions that cause your paths to cross. And think of the people who are close to you....how would your life have changed if one decision had been different? And any one decision that you make today may be the one that brings someone else in your life who one day you cannot imagine living without. Think of who you get to meet yet in your future...sound exciting, doesn't it?

Now make it real personal...you. Coincidence that you are here? Your parents united at that precise moment in time either in love or not....a sperm connected with an egg at that time...to bring forth you. Because if that energetic sperm smacking into that reluctant egg, you have been born looking like you do, acting like you do, and coming into MY life. Thank you. One slight change in that equation, and you would never have existed. Period...no ifs and buts about it. Coincidence?

Of course, the reverse is true, also. Think of all of the people whom you have missed over the years as a result of the decisions you have made. Think of what people you have missed at stoplights. Think of who you could have met if you had traveled to a different city. Think of who your wife COULD have been. Think that you could have had different children. And yes, think of what would have happened if your parents had never met.

If we all think about this when we go about our daily activities, then the world would be a better place. Each of our decisions has been predetermined, but we don't know which decision does what. You have a great influence on your life, my life, and the lives of millions. When you smile at that cashier, when you growl at your children...you are changing the future and the world.

As I type this, I am changing my future. If I were not here today, I could have been at the mall Christmas shopping. Who knows who I might have met? :D

i was driving past tims this morning - grabbing my cup o cup and i drove by what i thought was my ex in her car, so i blasted the tunes and turned and smiled and the woman in the car, not my ex, smiled and said 'looks like a good day already!'

but there has to be something out there that guides the "chance meetings". the "I was there too", "I always went there too"... all those weird coincidences where you circled around each other, same friends, events, but "fate" didn't step in until the timing was right.

just my little "out there" thinking...

Ahhh... the consequences. They are wonderful, and as calloused as you may think I am regarding this subject I experience this phenomenon too. But consider how many interactions (with all aspect of life) you have a day and multiply it by how many days you have been living, and the odds of something non coincidental become slimmer everyday you step outside. So the odds of interacting with an event that's seems familiar or fate as you would have it, see to be validated here.

I truly believe it's still the human natural tendency to feel that some power higher than us exists, not only that it's just seems romantic when you imagine it's fate that brought something/someone too you. I guess most people choose to believe in this nonsense because it would be an awfully boring existence if you knew that it was yourself that was responsible for all decisions in your life, not to mention most of us grow up with this notion by what we learn from our religions, parents and friends. I really don't buy into this stuff much, and most of the time I am very happy with my existence and I love life in general.

I believe in random chance having a big impact on people's lives, and that you can improve your odds by doing certain things. If you are an aspiring movie star, then moving to LA is going to increase your chances of "getting lucky". But the idea that there is some guiding hand is IMO hogwash.
