Mermaiden Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 I notice a lot of friends who were happily single or broken up before Thanksgiving have suddenly started dating any old body or getting back together with old boyfriends the closer it gets to Xmas/Hanukkah and New Years Eve. Is this weird or do many people get lonely and desperate at the Holidays and have to date someone rather than be alone ? I would rather be single than ever settle. Do other people do this too around the Holidays ? (Shack up rather than be single) I was planning to hang out with different friends when I move home around Xmas and over the last 2 weeks 8 out of 11 people I know have started dating. And two admitted they just cant stand be alone for Hoilidays so that's why this question is puzzling me.
Trialbyfire Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 No, I never lower my standards at any time. That's part of the beauty of a good support network of friends and family.
westernxer Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 Some can't handle the loneliness, I suppose. They're either away from family or have decided that family can't make the holiday season special. Happens during Valentine's, too.
VandGsMom Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 Nope.. I pretty much have low standards year-round evidently...
westernxer Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 Age is probably a factor too... we realize the world is starting to slip away, and we have nothing to fall back on. I've never settled, but I can understand why people do so. After all, we're only human.

amaysngrace Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 Holidays make some people depressed. I don't know what the suicide rate for December is, but I bet it's high. I would think that people couple up for the sake of not being lonely, but deep down they're lonely just the same.
