Jubilee Kate Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 Three weeks ago it was an email from an ex announcing his engagement. Two days ago I get a phone call from out of the blue from another old old ex "just calling to say hi" and see if I wanted to hang out since he's back in town. What's this urge to remain friends after a breakup? I mean, we weren't friends before we were together, so why would I want to be friends afterwards? I hope that doesn't sound bitter, as I am completely over these two past romances; however, I just do not believe this means that I am now obligated to maintain some sort of awkward pseudo-friendship, which at best, might include a phone call once a year to play "catch up." I do find it humorous, in a sick sorta way, that these attempts at contact are occuring now while I'm stuggling to mend a broken heart and fighting the urge to contact my most current ex. For now I'll just pat myself on the back since I'm on day 39 of NC and use this as my motivation to continue on as I'm doing.
alphamale Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 you should never be "friends" with any ex-lover....the only exception is if you both have kids together.

Is it really because he's your ex? I've had WAY too many close friends get married or engaged since my breakup, and as much as I love them, I'd really like to give them a swift kick to the face sometimes. Maybe you just hate seeing someone else have the situation (if not the specific person) you want. Just a thought.
