i have been living in the same house for over 17 years. i recently sold it and was planning on buying another home then i thought, i remember when i was dating someone and she lived with me and it occured to me, yeah, i would love to not own a home for a change and just live in someone else's house - pay normal rent and stuff - but i am way to old for the 3 guys and a dawg thang, and i am single and so i guess the options are limited.

wonder if i should check the 'rooms for rent' section in the local paper.

i kinda like this idea. i hate living alone. always have. i like company and being part of a family or with friends. why didn't i think of this earlier? duh

If you can afford to own your own home, then that is the best option, since paying rent is like burning money every month. But in this instance you can have you cake and eat it too! Why not advertise rooms for rent in your own home? That way, you can own your own home as well as have company.

to be honest, i really would rather assist in paying down some-elses mortgage. the thought of living without that responsiblity after 17 years sounds pretty good suddenly.

of course, i would never live with another guy [too high school] and not many single women have single guys as roomates - so, i guess i'm looking at an apartment maybe. hmmmmmmmmmm

I totally understand where you are coming from. I'm 43, divorced female. I am considering taking in a roommate, mainly to help with the bills. But, I would much prefer it to be a man. I do better with men then women, but I dont know much about the whole room-mate thing. I just want a male around for the companionship, conversation, etc. No, not the "benefits". I have a feeling, that this is going to be hard to find. But, I am considering this as a valid option. My friends all seem to think its a great idea for me also. So, why not give it a try.
