I think true love does exist but is hard to find if you mean someone you want to be with forever. Love and relationships take some work, but they shouldn't take TOO much work to remain compatible and keep romance alive. There is a lot of give and take and compromise involved. I do think it is normal to have some ups and downs in the course of relationships. Somewhere around the two year mark is a good indication for me as to whether I think my relationship has enough strength to go the distance. Unfortunately my history has been to marry two men before we got to that two year mark. It was around then that I doubted we would be together forever, but I worked at things for six more years the first time and five more years the second time. I also think that people often change and grow in ways that pull them apart. Sometimes you can find your way back to each other, sometimes you just can't.

Yes there are and I am happy to report that I am one who has 'true love' in his life. :)

There sure are. I'm also one of them too. If I didn't love my H then I wouldn't have married him. I'm happy and I wouldn't want to live my life without him.

If you don't want to be with this guy anymore then thats fine. Someone else will catch your eye and that person may be the one your looking for:D.

And yet our advice on love/marriage/etc. is ridiculed or outrightly dismissed. Hmmm... makes me wonder who the REAL cynics are here?

yes, i would agree that true love exists. it's entirely possible to be very much in love with someone, and them with you, and have it last for ever. you just need to pick a partner well and have both parties willing to put in the work a relationship needs.

unconditional love, a different matter. it doesn't exist between romantically-linked humans. but since that's not the topic i'll say no more about it. :)
