For the last six weeks I have been coming here and reading all the posts I can to help me out. I have to say it has been some really good therapy for me to understand how much I'm not alone and that we all share similar stories of the pain of a breakup and how to deal with it.

Yesterday I was talking with a friend I haven't seen or heard from in a long time telling him about my hurt and how I was dealing with it. My friend listened to me for a few minutes and then stopped me and said he was going to turn me on to something that would change my life and the way I think about everything from this point on. I am going to do the same thing now and share this information with anybody who reads this and hope it will change the way they think like it did me. First off I know I am not allowed to post links to other web sites here so all you need to do is go to google and do a search for THE SECRET. It is a 90 minute movie that you can watch online or buy the DVD from The Secret web site. I have to say after watching it I finally got a complete nights sleep after eight weeks of being dumped by my ex. I awoke this morning and now see and think different about everything in my life.

This is well worth the $5 to watch the movie. I learned about the principle early on and applied the principles to my career and finances and it was worked extremely well. I've also applied it to athletic endeavours and had a lot of success. Visualization is the key. And honestly, I am that annoying person that gets the good parking spots

I have, however, noticed that in my romantic relationships I don't use the same principles. I use them in the beginning, but then one nagging fear creeps in and whereas the guy appeared to be head over heels, he wimpers off and I'm left crushed. I couldn't figure out until I saw the movie what the problem is. The funny thing is that I was wondering this thing myself a week or two ago.

The law of attraction brought a lot of men to me, and a couple that I felt I was very compatible with. But my fear of being taken for granted like I was by the love of my life had me living out in negativity. I was crushed and it took me a long time to get over it. I guess I have the residue, even though it happened about 8 years ago. My fear based beliefs sabotaged one good thing (the other fortunately wasn't a loss) through the energy. I couldn't have put it into words until I saw the movie.

For those of you who haven't seen it, you really need to. It's not necessarily about relationships, but using the law of attraction to bring more of what you want into your life.

I'm still awaiting more positive reviews before I buy into this... but if I hear a couple more I may do it.

This isn't going to turn out like that movie "The Ring is it?" Like I'm not going to get a phone call after watching the video telling me I have 7 days to live...and then have to launch off on a creepy adventure trying to solve the mystery of the video in order to save my life from a grisly death?

Then again, if that's the case, I suppose I could forward the video to my ex... free of charge of course.... "my treat to you darlin'"

(ok, that's only amusing if you've seen the movie).

I'm skeptical, but I'll check out the site at least.

thanks for the info.

Dlish,

It's only $5 and I doubt you're going to regret it. It's like renting a video at blockbuster.

One more in the loooooong list of 'laws of attraction' shills. Of course they have 'secret' - related stuff to sell you.

Look, it's not rocket science, this stuff. Years ago, Norman Vincent Peale wrote 'The Power of Positive Thinking' . Napoleon Hill wrote 'Think and Grow Rich'. People have been selling this principle for dogs' years.

I think it's great if people can be persuaded to think more positively and to imagine their dreams can come true, but I worry what happens to the people who think their butts off, believe with all their hearts, and crash and burn anyway. You see them every year on American Idol saying 'I KNOW I was born to be a star' .

There's probably no harm in watching the movie, but it's NOT your fault if your dreams don't come true.

Of course these films, books, etc. will give you many examples of people who tried it and succeeded. What you won't hear about are the people who tried every bit as earnestly and failed.

You can't succeed without a positive attitude, but having a positive attitude does not guarantee you success.

Guest,

I can see how positive your thinking is. Look, everyone's heard of the law of attraction and probably used it at some point in their life. And the video also clarifies that sitting around thinking happy thoughts by itself isn't going to make anything happen. But when you have more positive energy, visualize and work towards a goal you do bring about more success than sitting around feeling sorry for yourself. These are tools that pro athletes, businessmen, and politicians use. Someone told me about the goal setting, visualization thing when I was 18 and it has everything to do with where I am financially today. If you want to negate the possibilities, don't watch it. But I'm telling people who have an open mind that it's another tool.

I saw it, and I'm all for these types of things (as you can tell by reading previous posts of mine overflowing with insanity), but as far as this movie goes, I do not buy it at all.

In fact, I was completely pissed off when I first saw it. No, thanks.

I have some snake oil to sell. Takers?

It's amazing to me how one negative poster who hasn't seen the movie can affect the attitude of others.

The movie isn't a panacea for all your woes. It's just common sense stuff that does work. But what would I know. I only used it and it worked out ridiculously well. Before I ever saw the movie.

It's a marketing tool, just like all of the self help books on how to get your ex back. It's just a lot cheaper and doesn't address things like getting your ex back.

If it helps, if it works for you, then it's well worth it. I'm still considering.

I know I've read some ridiculous break up books in the past couple months- with little self motivating mantras and freakin apple pie recipes. It felt like such a waste of money.

I've given up on getting back together with my ex... but I'm not giving up on my recovery. I just want to move past it and finish grieving already! Geez it's been over 3 months.

Thanks,

D

You sound like your'e well on your way Dlish. It'll happen when you're ready. One of two things will happen. You'll realize what a jackass he was and that there's no looking back or you'll meet someone else and then you'll realize what a jackass he was.

Hopefully it's the first one. Takes less time.
