Hi all, My last post was "it's been 2 weeks, and it's getting worse" well guess what?

I said that my girlfriend has melanoma, and that she's been taking medication for it. I finally took a look at what she's been taking. It's called "Bupropion". I looked it up on the internet, and it said it's used for people that suffer from Bipolar, or other kinds of depression. I asked her about it and she said that the doctor told her to take this because it changes the chemistry of the bad blood cells and increases the good blood cells.

I looked this up and can't find anything on it at all. If someone can help me here it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you thecount

Never heard of using that for melanoma.. Is she going through chemo? That's the only reason I believe blood cells were to change. When my brother had cancer, the chemo took his white blood cell count down from 10,000 to 100. He couldn't go outside until the count went up.

From WebMD:

Bupropion is used to treat depression. It can improve your mood and feelings of well-being. It may work by helping to restore the balance of certain natural chemicals (neurotransmitters) in your brain.

The sustained release form of bupropion is also used to help people quit smoking by decreasing cravings and nicotine withdrawal effects.

OTHER USES: Bupropion may also be used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This drug may also be used with other medications to treat bipolar disorder (depressive phase).

Unless there is something I am missing, I believe she's not telling you the whole truth here.

I know you're right, because I can't find anything on it either. I even looked up the name of the doctor on the pills, and it said the some about Geriatrics.

What the hell gives?

Geriatrics??

Is her name actually on the pill bottle?

If not, my first thought is that she is taking someone else's pills...a grandparent (or parent, if her parents are older).

Her name is on the bottle. I just don't get it.

Well, whatever is going on, she's not taking those pills for melanoma. Melanoma is a skin cancer. Treatment includes cutting out the tumor(s), and possibly chemo, radiation, or immunotherapy (there are two medications, and they are both injected).

She is taking those pills for their intended purpose: depression.

She is lying to you about what those pills are for.

I have no idea about the geriatrics doctor - unless he has other specialities? Or maybe he is her parents' doctor and she just went to him to get the pills.

If she is bipolar, that would explain a lot.
