Kittiecat Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 How awful are they? I expressed interest in one today - however I don't think it will be followed up on as the solicitor is a bit of an airhead and mentioned this particular gentleman before (with, of course no follow up)...sooooo... My questions to LS are: 1. Really - how bad are blind dates; 2. Why do people make the "I'll set you up with ___________" and never follow through? Why even bother? Christ, am I that awful? 3. Is it sad that I'm willing? I mean, what the hell? I've never done it before...I consider this a stretch of my comfort zone.
johan Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 I was single for a long time, and relatively miserable. But I was too proud and would never ask for help. There was a married woman I worked with who had a little crush on me. I was friends with her for a long time, and she knew I wasn't really happy. One day, for the one and only time in my life, I just made a decision and told her to fix me up with someone. So she and a friend got together and set me up with my ex. That ended up lasting for over three years. For better or worse.
johan Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 On the other hand, the girl who cuts my hair set me up with her amazon sister who was older than me and bitter from a divorce from a really weird guy. We only met one time for coffee at the bookstore, but it scarred me for life.

alphamale Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 setups and blind dates usually don't work. I think maybe its just cause of the premise that both people are desperate and can't find their own dates or lovers. its just like any singles event, soon as you walk in the word "loser" is stamped on your forehead whether you are or are not.
johan Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 ...soon as you walk in the word "loser" is stamped on your forehead whether you are or are not. Yeah, but if your date is blind, then that won't matter will it. I'm thinking I'm going to have my best chance with a blind girl. And I figure a blind girl with no sense of smell is going to really dig me. And if she also can't hear, I'll know I've got my best shot. Women like that are hard to find. So I sleep alone.
alphamale Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Yeah, but if your date is blind, then that won't matter will it. I'm thinking I'm going to have my best chance with a blind girl. we're not talking that kind of blind JOHAN....were talking a blind date as both people are setup.... dumb dumb!!

I don't think it's that simple. Like I said, I've never done it before so it might be fun, it might suck...there's only one way to find out. And really - even if it sucks, is it the end of the world? Not really. I don't really consider myself desperate OR bearing a "loser" stamp on my forehead, and even if others perceive me that way, piss on them.
magichands Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 , piss on them. I believe that manoeuvre is called a "golden shower."

Author Kittiecat Posted November 28, 2006 Author Posted November 28, 2006 ok good luck i guess you'll find out yourself. Sh*t, I probably will! Either way I'll earn my stripes, right? Who am I kidding, I mostly likely will be saved the humiliation of this whole thing, which is fine with me - he'll breathe a sigh of relief too, I'm sure.
magichands Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 he'll breathe a sigh of relief too, I'm sure. And light up a cigarette.

monkey00 Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 you guys ever heard of speed dating... personally I've never been on a blind date. however I had a friend once who setup/introduced her guy acquantance with her female acquantance...those 2 hit it off pretty well and they appear to make a good couple. We all hungout a few times in the past and i know them pretty well. I havent heard from any of them the past couple years, so I assume they're still well off.
Star Gazer Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 I've been on one blind date. About 3 or so years ago I made a comment to my boss (we were pretty close) about how attractive I thought this one guy in our industry was. He said, "Oh yeah, you think he's cute, eh? Well, I happen to know he has a very successful, younger, SINGLE brother...want me to see what I can't work up?" I said sure, why not. He called, we ended up having a very lovely dinner. Excellent conversation, he was attractive, allathat. There just wasn't that *spark* that is sooooo important. Kinda bummed me out. But because of that experience, I'd be more than willing to have another blind date!!
alphamale Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 you guys ever heard of speed dating... total waste of time.... There just wasn't that *spark* that is sooooo important. its all 'bout the "spark", isn't it SG??
magichands Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 total waste of time.... But not much time, haha.
johan Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 total waste of time.... Aren't all your dates speed-dates?
alphamale Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 But not much time, haha. but your wallet will be $40 lighter....that's without paying for drinks.
monkey00 Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 total waste of time.... hence why they dont call it slow dating...
magichands Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 but your wallet will be $40 lighter....that's without paying for drinks. Dude... that won't even buy a good box of chocolates. I call it good value for money. You can't put a price on potential love.
