Keslove Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 SO and I will undoubtedly be meeting my parents out for dinner in the near future. My question is, who should pick up the tab? I know my dad will volunteer to. Should I volunteer to pick it up? Should I split it with him? What is customary in these situations? Thanks.
norajane Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Parents usually pay. My dad would never let me pay for dinner, unless I specifically offered it as a gift, like for a birthday.
Walk Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 My rule of thumb: If I asked them out, then I pay. If they asked me out, then usually they pay. But it ends up pretty equal that way. Might make an impression on your SO though if you pay the tab for the meal. To me.. it shows that you've been able to grow past blindly accepting that your parents pay for everything for you. And it's kind of a small gesture of your appreciation for them agreeing to spend their evening with you.
