If a guy at that age (32) moved back in with his parents, does that mean he probably has financial problems? He said he's saving up to buy property..but can't someone do that AND live on their own? Just curious about this.

I'm 32 and if I wanted to buy property and needed money down I'd have to move back in with my parents.

I think I'd be looking at it from a bit different angle. The guy is 32, definitely an adult, and he feels it's okay to place a financial burden on his parents in order for him to save for something he wants? I could see if he were paying rent to his parents, but then why not just rent a cheap room and save up for the property?

Just makes me think that he's okay with using them for his own gratification.

I know there are situations where moving back in with parents is more acceptable. Going back to school full time in order to get a better career could mean that the child could better help the parents financially later in life. Or moving back in during a serious illness. Or... I'm sure there are other situations where a person would be forced to rely on the generosity of family to help them. But to buy some land????? hmm... All I think is he's using them to get something he wants.

Plus, I think he's telling you a Bullsh excuse. I bet he finds a million and one other things to blow that money on, and the land won't be any more attainable from mooching off the parents than if he'd actually paid his own way through life. Just my experience though.

His parents might think it's a good idea, because a house is an investment and provides him with some financial security. I'd do it ,but it's impossible living with my father.

I'm not saying that it's not a good investment. And parents WANT to help their children out.. well, good parents do at least. But the fact of the matter is, if he were a real man then he'd find another way to do it. Would it be so horrible to rent a cheap room until he saved up enough for the house? Why is the only alternative to move in with parents? Is he going to pay them rent each month? Money for food, utilities, etc? Is he going to hold up his share of the household chores like cooking, cleaning, and yard work? Or will he just be staying there like a guest of honor?

I had to pay off a lot of money after my divorce, and I only made 10 an hour at my job. So I rented a cheap azz room in a house with a bunch of other people and worked to pay off that debt. I had to make sacrifices to achieve my goal. But the goal was worth it.

I just don't have much respect for people who aren't willing to try it first on their own. I sure wouldn't have as much respect for myself if I needed to go ask mommy and daddy for help every time I wanted something... but then again.. this is exactly what my brother does and it horrifies me to see him take advantage of our parents that way. Hell, he even got them to pay for the new house he wanted. So I'm probably over reacting to the proposed situation more than a normal person would.

he's most likely full of krap and trying to make up some good excuse. he knows that living with the parents is the kiss of death with chicks. there most likely is no "property"....what's more likely is that he's in debt to the tune of $20,000 and has no ca$h...
