amaysngrace Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 This is basically a question for the guys, although I welcome the ladies' view as well. My boyfriend tells me from time to time that I remind him of his mom. He'll be like "my mom says that" or "my mom's the same way". They have a good relationship. They speak everyday. And his parents live within 10 minutes from him. Is it weird for a guy to see similarities between his girlfriend and his mother? I'm not sure if I should be freaked or flattered, or neither... What do you guys think??
yearninginside Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 You should deffinately be flattered. A child begins with the idea that their parents are the perfect picture of what things are supposed to be. A child also see's his/her parents relationship. Most often, the child's view of the perfect mate, is what they've been shown an example of. Allthough, many would not admit it as far as their grave, this is how it works. So in his mind calculator of his subconsous, he has picked you on some level, as a match for the mate slot.
Woggle Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 As long as it isn't some creepy Norman Bates type of thing it is no big deal.
yearninginside Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 No kidding!!! I agree with a lot of freud crap, but there's some stuff that I think he had issues with and just wanted everyone to think it was normal!
Author amaysngrace Posted November 13, 2006 Author Posted November 13, 2006 He seems pretty grounded. It's not like I think he thinks of mom when we're in bed or anything. It's just these little things I do or say when he says it. But never when we're being physical. But isn't it a bad thing for a guy to think like this? I always thought that if a woman acts like a mom, he'll go looking for a girlfriend? Or is there a very fine line there? Do men prefer to be taken care of or taking care of others? Or both?

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Yearningside made some good points. This guy likes a healthy blend of being taken care of and taking care of others.
alphamale Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Is it weird for a guy to see similarities between his girlfriend and his mother? I'm not sure if I should be freaked or flattered, or neither... for many men the only woman they can really put up on a pedestal is their mother. so you should take it as a compliment. drop the whole female competition thing.
Author amaysngrace Posted November 13, 2006 Author Posted November 13, 2006 drop the whole female competition thing. I'm not in competition with his mom. Where'd you ever get that idea? I respect her for the way she's raised her son, actually, and his brother too.

Author amaysngrace Posted November 13, 2006 Author Posted November 13, 2006 See, Alpha, I'm not a guy. Therefore I don't know what guys think. I was just looking for a little insight into the male mind, which you provided in your first reply, before you took a shot at me. So, thank you for that. (the reply, not the shot!)

Nice to see your brain is up and running today!
Guest Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 The answer is "it depends what he thinks of his mother". Your guy has a good relationship with her so in your case it's a good thing. Obviously if he hated her, you'd have reason to worry. I always thought that if a woman acts like a mom, he'll go looking for a girlfriend? Yes, if she orders him around and generally treats him as though he's a little boy.

Guest Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 Thank you Guest. What you've said makes a lot of sense to me. BTW...are you secretly Alpha? Geeze. No need to be mean.
Adunaphel Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 Is it weird for a guy to see similarities between his girlfriend and his mother? I'm not sure if I should be freaked or flattered, or neither... I think it's a lovely thing to say. If he were too attached to his mom perhaps you'd have something to worry about, but otherwise it's just a kind of nice compliment imo.
Author amaysngrace Posted November 14, 2006 Author Posted November 14, 2006 Geeze. No need to be mean. It was a compliment. Alpha's not mean, you maybe just don't know him, not that I do but I don't get a mean vibe from him. He just likes to keep it interesting is all.
jerbear Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 What do you guys think?? Who is older? LOL :lmao: It is no different than some guys looking for similar traits found in their mothers and women looking for similar traits of their fathers. Take it as a compliment and that he likes you because you are familiar. He can be comfortable because you are familiar. Now if he calls you mommy then that is another issue.
Author amaysngrace Posted November 14, 2006 Author Posted November 14, 2006 Now if he calls you mommy then that is another issue. Yeah, maybe then I'd have to SPANK him! He's two and a half years older than I am. He already said I was his family, not in the true sense, but he views me as family like he does his two best friends, his parents and his brother. I took that as a major compliment.
Woggle Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 If he asks you to cut your hair like his mother and wants you to wear her dresses then you have a problem.
jerbear Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 Yeah, maybe then I'd have to SPANK him! Great... now if a SO says "I ain't your momma" or "who's your momma!"; I'll be thinking of this thread! If he asks you to cut your hair like his mother and wants you to wear her dresses then you have a problem. Just do it and see what happens... :lmao: color the hair to match his mother's color (unless it is white) :lmao:
Author amaysngrace Posted November 14, 2006 Author Posted November 14, 2006 Great... now if a SO says "I ain't your momma" or "who's your momma!"; I'll be thinking of this thread! Wow, that's bizarro...when I typed the word 'spank' I was thinking of YOU!
