I hear so much about how people have a problem losing weight, but what about gaining weight? I am considered quite thin and I'd like to gain some weight, but it doesn't seem to be working out, and i'm a good eater too...anyway, I keep getting people telling me how thin I am, and it really bothers me.

Most recent was a guy at work, and he just went on and on about it. What are you supposed to say to people that bother you like that? I mean, I don't think i'd ever say something about someones physical appearance like that unless it was a nice thing, why do people do this?

My nickname in highschool by my friends was "toothpick." There was some others but this one pretty much followed me.

I get that to from people all the time. There really isn't much that you can do. Just ignore it or what I do is say "thank you." That shuts them up real quick. Or you can say things like:

"O really I hadn't noticed", "wow I didn't know that" or "Yes I am thin it's that great."

I can relate to being too thin.

Back when I was thin-thin, I used to work as a CNA in a nursing home in my younger years. The administrator handed me a chocolate nutrition drink that the old people used to keep their weight up. He treated me as if I was sick. That made me feel very unattractive.

If you think it's a problem, talk to your doctor first and see if it is one. It's that simple. If not, then don't worry about it. The point is to be healthy given your body build. Some people just aren't built light, just aren't built heavy, etc.

What to do about people at work commenting on it? If they bother you, handle it like any other such bother; if it's a polite environment tell them to stop or that you don't like it.

Why they do that? Some out of innocent wonder, others out of less innocent envy, others just because they're overgrown elementary schoolers, and so on. Who knows?

Just do the weight management or lack thereof for YOUR purposes, and do it for your OWN fitness goals.

The others here have also given you advice on how to handle this.

Good luck, Guest.

yousaveme how are you feeling besides being thin?

I know you were having a lot of health problems and just wondered how you were feeling.

I can sympathize about the thin-ness. It really is a blow to the self-esteem when people make *those* types of comments. I ALSO get a lot of "you look so young! You look like you're 12!" GRRR, I never retort with "Well you look like my grandma!"

I decided to just embrace my looks--such as getting clothes that give my figure a little curve or wearing make-up that brings out my best instead of caking it on to try and look older. I feel a lot better about myself and more able to counter comments with a little smile and a change of the subject. That usually gets the point across that my personal appearance is not up for discussion!

Thanks so much guys, I feel a bit better! Yeah I guess some people don't understand that being called too thin is just as upsetting as being called too fat. I've also been told I look 12, i'm 21...arg..I'll try saying some of those things next time someone bothers me about it. I think making an appointment with a nutritionist will help, because I don't really know WHAT exactly I should be eating to put on the weight. Only eating A LOT of food isn't enough. Thanks again all for the support :0)

I know exctly what you mean. People wouldn't say "you are so fat..lose weight" to obese people, so why say the opoosite to skinny people.
