skinut2234 Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Does it work?? I've been on for 3 weeks for clinical depression.... I understand it takes a while to work- Can anyone share examples of any changes they may have noticed while on it?
luvtoto Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 My daughter and I take it. Previously, both of us have been on other AD's and gained weight. Neither of us have gained weight taking Lexapro...or have any other side-effects. I have been taking it for years.
leopardprint Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 I was just put on this along with Clonazepam for the anxiety attack like symptoms the other day. I'd also like to know people's experiences. skinut2234, you said you've been on it for 3 weeks; has it not made an effect on you what-so-ever? I'm a bit worried myself, since my first perscription is only for a month. Does anyone know how long they take to go into affect? The reason my doctor put me on Lexapro was because he said they have little to no side effects.
erika2610 Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 Good ole Lexapro. I'll tell you.. I loved it. That was my first AD, years ago. Before I went on it, I was sooo depressed, so quiet, and generally blah. I got on Lexapro, and it was like stepping into another world. I started feeling better after a couple of weeks. I was just SO much happier. I opened up to people, whereas I was basically afraid of them before. My shyness was basically gone, and my energy level shot up. Like I said, for me it only took a couple of weeks, but it's different for everybody. Could take only a week to notice a difference, it could take up to a month. You have to be patient.

caring guy Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 In my experience, SSRI antidepressants have never worked, for 10 years i've been on different ones. Paxil, Prozac, Effexor, Busparone & finaly Lexapro which is Cipralex here in UK. Lexapro was the best of the lot, i took 20mg a day for anxiety/panic. Although, as with most SSRI's the side affects are different in everyone & sometimes overpower the benefits. I had sweating, mad dreams, not able to orgasm. I was also taking Valium which was far more effective than the Lexapro. My Psychiatrist then told me of a new drug that had just been given license to treat GAD (general anxiety dissorder) & depression that is called Lyrica (Pregabalin) & it is a drug that attacks the receptors that Benzodiazapenes do instead of the receptors that SSRI's do. It has hardly any side affects, except for a feeling of elation, & wanting to sleep more. It mellows me out, i have lowered my Valium intake as it is addictive & i recommend it, big time. It's a totally new way of treating this illness & is slowly changing me. cg
