Who goes by their middle name instead of their first name??

Is this common??

My daughter wants to go by her middle name instead of her first name. But, she is 14. Is it too late to make the change??

It is pretty common, I've seen some middle names as primary names.

It could be her "call sign" or "street name" :D

Besides she can change it later in high school, college, etc... Let her try it out, if she wants to make it permanent; tell her to wait till 18.

Thanks, Jerbear. Nice to hear from you again!!

What process does a person have to take to go by her middle name? Is it a legal process? Or does a person just wake up one day and decide to go by it?

they just wake up one day and decide.

it is not that she is legally changing her first name, just going by a different given name.

the hard part is getting people who are used to calling you by the first name to switch over to the "new" name

There's no legal process. You just introduce yourself by your middle name instead of your first name. As long as she fills out her name as it is legally on official forms, then she's good to go.

My mom has gone by her middle name for as long as I've been alive.

her middle name is already part of her legal name.

Obviously when she grows up and has to sign documents that require her legal name she will have to sign her first name first

My brother goes by his middle name. He just decided one day when we were kids he hated his first name.

at least your daughter still wants to keep one of Her names, and not make up some new one.

i used to want my name to be Christina Ballerina, but after i stopped ballet in the 3rd grade, i decided Ashley was pretty..... of course i never changed my name, and i now love both my first and middle names!:D

Weenis...haha!

Anyway, thanks for all your advice. Doesn't seem like my daughter is gonna have the guts to do it. She thinks that she'll be made fun if she tries to get people to use it.
