Buttaflyy Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Fellas, how did you propose? If you haven't done it yet, what is your idea of a romantic wedding proposal? Ladies, how did your hubby/fiance ask you to get hitched?
Mz. Pixie Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 My current H did a very romantic thing or so I thought. We were eloping so I figured I wouldn't get a big romantic proposal. One day I'm at my desk and there he is in my cubicle. I'm busy and had just gotten back from a meeting. He said that he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and would I marry him and dropped to his knee in my cubicle. He may have said more but I was so shocked I can't remember. Needless to say, I said yes and then everyone on the whole floor crowded in hollering and shouting and there was balloons. One of the higher ups was crying. Everyone talking about the ring. I was still in shock. Turns out he'd called several of my friends/coworkers and told them of his plan and even showed a few the ring. They all conspired to get me back to my desk and occupied until he could get there. One of my coworkers called her boyfriend after and yelled "I'm never going to have anything like that if I stay with you" and broke up with him! Give me the warm fuzzies just thinking of that.

Mz. Pixie Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 No, I didn't cry. I was too shocked to cry! Yeah- she broke up with him but he was a real jerk. Been together 8 years and he didn't even come to her father's funeral. Couldn't get off work he said.
quankanne Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 she deserved much better than being "good old stand-by-me girlfriend" when he couldn't be bothered to do the same for her! yours IS a romantic story, I kinda wish my husband would have done something romantic, but at that point in his life, he wasn't as demonstrative with his affection, so ... let's see, my "proposal" took place as we were driving Las Vegas. We were somewhere in the mountains of West Texas, headed west, and I'd woken up after a 2-3 hour nap. Somehow we got on the topic of his extending his civil service contract with the Saudian government and that he was going to be there another two years. Now, I'd been doing the long distance thing with hiim since I graduated from college, seeing him twice a year because of his job in the Middle East, and I was bummed by the thought of having to put up with even more of a long-distance relationship. I can't remember what I said to him, but I remember him looking over at me, saying, "Oh, but I still want to marry you." That surprised me, because he'd never ever said anything about being serious about me and I knew he'd been burned pretty badly by the break-up of his previous marriage. I guess it was safe to say I saw myself as more of a ****-buddy than wife material ...
Art_Critic Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 My now Ex wife proposed to me.. She just did it after dinner one night at my house and just looked into my eye and ask me to marry her.. I was in shock.. I said yes.. And it goes to show you that a woman can propose as well.. I felt like a million bucks and real speacial when she did it.. even though the marriage didn't work out it still is a good memory to have.. But 5 years later I'm the one that proposed the divorce.. asked for it, sought it and got it
IpAncA Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Ok my H proposed to me in a very mean way. Me and him used to play jokes on each other and I got him really good and it was his turn to do it to me. Of course when he did it to me I didn't know it was a joke at the time and he got me REAL good and I'm NOT making this up. Really I'm not. I was at my friends party when there was a knock on the door. So my friend opened it and there were two cops standing there and asked if they could have a word with me and my friend. So of course I thought something happend to my boyfriend because he is a cop too and they were just coming to tell me. So we go outside with the cops and he starts asking me where I was the night before and I told him with my boyfriend and I asked why. He starts telling me that someone saw both of us doing a hit and run with a car. Well of course I denied it and I asked him who said this and do you have proof and to call my boyfriend because he will say that I was with him. They didn't believe me or my friend. Of course they said that they were trying to find him and that me and my friend had to come to the station for more questioning. Well at this point I was like crying pretty much because I just didn't know what to do or what to expect. I just keep thinking "omg I'm going to be doing time" and my friend was just freaking out also. So we end up going with them because we didn't have a choice and they even did the whole hand cuffing thing. Man did I felt like I was on COPS or something because even some of the people from the party came out and were watching. O it was horrible. Anyhow we get there and we go thru the whole process and such and they put us both in a holding area and I kept telling them (and these were people that I knew) to call my boyfriend or to let me. I was like "I get one Dam F***ing phone call or is that only in movies!" Man was I ticked and scared at the same time. Well about 30 mins later of just sitting there with rage and thinking abou the future he comes in to see me. So of course I go over there quickly and was telling him what happend and that they got the wrong girls. So that man had the nerve to ask me "well did you really do a hit and run?" Glad I was behind those bars let me tell you. So after I pratically yell at him, he tells me that he talked with some people and they agreed to let me out for the time being if I would do one thing. I told him that I wasn't agreeing to anything without my lawyer because I didn't do s**t. Then he says " so does that mean you won't marry me then." I was like "What?" I didn't know what to say and then it dawned on me that this was a joke. So then him and my friend and some others came in just laughing and he was like "so who is the master at jokes now!" I wanted to kiss him and hit him. So after all that I did say yes and it was mean, funny and romantic all rolled into one. I couldn't believe he had the nerve to do it but even to this day I still laugh at it and so does he. It was awesome.
Romeo Must Die Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 We didnt have a formal engagement. We had been talking about it and we just decided to get married and then the family pretty much took over. lol. His mother ran all the wedding plans and everything was great until she realized that I wasnt going to wear the pantsuit she picked out for me and she got pissed off. I mean, she totally turned on me. The family ring she was going to give me was used as leverage to get her way. I thought that was a pretty heartless thing to do to somebody on the night before the wedding. She told me that I wouldnt be able to get married without the ring. At that point, I didnt even want to get married at all. She also got the grandmother and the sister against me and had me crying the day before my wedding. They told me I was ungreatful because nobody in that family ever got to pick their own dress. Grandmother gave up her dress so she could help her sister pay for her wedding, etc. Well, my fiance came home from work and found me in tears. He called his mom and he just told her to back off and he was not going to let her ruin this day for us. He told her that she has ruined all the family weddings in the past (his sisters wedding was disaterous) and he cancelled ALL the wedding plans. We are getting married tomorrow without you. The next thing he did was he took me to the mall and bought me an engagement ring and the next morning, he wore his leather coat (the only dressy thing he owned) and I put on a white summer dress I had in my closet and we drove downtown (Chicago) and we got married at the courthouse. He took me to a five star hotel for lunch and we went to the Shedd Aquarium and seen the new Beluga whales and the rest is private. Pretty neat guy I married, hmmm. Now you know why we moved hundreds of miles away to Wisconsin ; )
