I am dating this girl who I kinda like and sort of tired of. We have gone out on 3 dates at this point and on the last date I went back to her place and it smells so bad from her dog. When I left her place I smelled like her dog. The first date we didnt really kiss. The second Date I had my first kiss at the end of the date. And the third Date we did some heavy making out which at the same time of enjoying it I also smelled the dog smell on her. She has this dog that stinks up her whole place and anybody who lives or enters that place. I'm really considering breaking up with her. I might just tell her work is transfering me to another state and I dont want a long distance relationship. What should I do I could see my self really liking this girl was it not for her smelly dog?

Stop at PetSmart and get some good smelling shampoos for the dog.

Tell this girl that you really like her and you don't mean to come off as anal, but you find the smell of her dog offensive.

Then give her the new good smelling shampoos. :)

Good luck because if she has a very nasty side, you may get the shampoos thrown at you.

People get accustomed to the way their house smells and don't realize how bad it might be to other poeple. You'd be doing her a favor by telling her what the problem is rather than lying about being transferred to another state.

The dog shampoo is a great idea, but her house also needs to be cleaned, and probably the carpet/rugs shampood. Offer to help her with that too!

That's one reason why I have a rabbit as a pet. My house doesn't 'smell' like rabbit as they do not smell. And my GF gets along with him as well. :)

Seriously, you've only been out with her three times. Just tell her that things aren't working out. You don't have to mention anything about her 'smelly pooch' - just say it isn't working out. Don't tell her some ridiculous lie about being transferred as she won't believe you. Women are good at spotting liars. :)

Just start calling her dog Stinky. She'll pick up on it after a while.

shallow or not, a stank-ass filthy dog would be a huge dealbreaker for me.

but telling someone their dog reeks is just as bad as saying their own breath smells. if you can do it gently, and you really want to date this girl, i would at least try to talk to her about it.

personally, i wouldn't continue it because the dog is going to continue being there and is going to smell again. i don't care for animals to begin with though. i think smelling it once and realizing the person i was kissing and fooling around with smelled like a gross dog, it would have ruined it right then and ended right there, because i would then, in my head, think of that smell from that point on. you have more patience than i do, so go you.

I think thats kinda pethetic. Your already tired of her? If your tired of her already whats the point of even asking this question? your wasting yours and exspecially her time.

Just get out of there asap so you stop wasting her time.

Ok the dog thing is gross yes. But you don't even like her? If it was worth it id suggest going to her house, or mention something about the dog smelling bad (not her)

but really you know the answer to this...your sick of her after 3 dates!

I agree with this. Most people will choose their pets over people as pets won't betray them unlike most people. :):p

Why do I have a feeling we'll soon be reading a thread from a girl...

"He dumped me because my dog smells!"

"I have had a sweet, loving cocker spaniel ever since he was a cute little puppy. He's 14 now and is having some medical problems and sometimes pees on the rug. I know he doesn't mean to do it, but can't help himself because of his age. And yeah, I know he smells a little, and my house does too, but I love him.

This guy I've been dating just told me he can't see me anymore because my dog smells and my house smells! I'm heartbroken because I really liked this guy and thought we might have some fun together. Can't he understand that's what happens when dogs get old, and it's hard to clean up after him right away because I work and stuff so I'm not always home?

What a meanie he turned out to be!"

and then another thread about how people who can't properly care for an animal shouldn't have one.

No, no, I've never had a dog. I'm just imagining what KMT's girl would say from her side of the story...

really, you would do that just to date someone?

ew. not ew you, just the situation.

You know what...after my nose-job I just can't smell a thing. But I get a lot more attention from guys, so it was worth it.

I'm kind of weird like that. I would wash the dog when she's out. I would give her oranges with cloves stuck into them, and say that it's just the way I keep my hands busy when she's not around.

But I like to mess with people's heads. I say it's worth hanging around until the sex part, just in case.

If only it were that easy lol.

The dog shampoo is a great idea, but her house also needs to be cleaned, and probably the carpet/rugs shampood. Offer to help her with that too!

At this point it is embedded into the house it needs a major cleaning but it is so smelly there is no way she doesn’t notice it. And you scared me with how close you described my situation with this dog in your post joke about her posting on LS.

I don't know what I'd tell her, I do know not to mention the smelly pooch but she’s going to ask why things aren’t working out and then what am I supposed to do say they just aren’t and leave it at that. In a way my ridiculous lie might be kinder.

shallow or not, a stank-ass filthy dog would be a huge dealbreaker for me.

I hope it isn't shallow because right now I'm undecided I'm planning on seeing her at least one more time and depending on how things smell it may be the last. I don't want to step foot inside her house when I go to pick her up I know that much.

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. I don't know her that well but the reason I'm tired of her is the dog smell thing. We have alot in common and if it wasn't for this I wouldn't even be considering breaking up with her after only 3 dates. I'm not mentioning the dog smell because there is now way in gods green earth she cant smell it. I mean I leave her place smelling like I run a kennel for dirty dogs. I have no idea how I didn’t start smelling it till after I went to her place but its horrible. This is just a silly sad situation for me to be in and there are so many social rules to follow here that breaking up with her is probably what I'm going to have to do.

But I like to mess with people's heads. I say it's worth hanging around until the sex part, just in case.

: )

Well I'll have to make some kind of decision on whether to continue this or not by this weekend thanks for ur thoughts.

A smelly house for whatever reason would be a deal-breaker for me. I went out with a guy that I liked, but the minute I stepped into his house...GAG!!! NASTY. I seriously had to consciously stop my self from gagging throughout the evening. I just wanted to leave, and was counting the minutes.

I don't want to develop a relationship with someone who doesn't take care of their dog or whatever pet they have.

How would they treat me then?

I myself have a dog. He gets a shampooed every two weeks, his bed and my fabrics febreezed regularly, & my carpets get shampooed often.

There is no excuse for smelliness. I won't put up with it.

Your dog provides you with unconditional love, and what do you do...smother him with perfumed people products. I guess there is a price to be paid for a "free" lunch.
