bigmil Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 Does anyone know how long "break-through bleeding" should last when a girl is on the depo-provera shot? I know it's a gross question but my sex life depends on it. Thanks.
ely Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 I was on the depo-provera shot before I left the hospital when I gave birth to my daughter and I bled for six months. I will truthfully say I will never try the shot again. I don't have an answer for you, I can only express my experience . Call your doctor tomorrow. I still don't see why you can't have sex. Use a condom
allina Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 This is more of a question for the sexual health section. Also if you are having sex you should probably be comfortable enough with the functions of your reproductive organs to not consider them "gross"
norajane Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 The Depo shot can have a lot of side effects, and breakthrough bleeding is the most common one. It affects each woman differently, so there is no standard prediction of how long the bleeding will last or for how many months she will experience breakthrough bleeding. Depo can cause irregular periods and breakthrough bleeding and spotting for a long time, even up to a year. But some women end up with very light periods after a while. It really just depends on how it affects each particular woman. Even her doctor can't predict how it will affect her. It's also pretty hardcore as a birth control because it can take up to 2 years or longer to get pregnant after she completely stops getting the shots.
Author bigmil Posted October 24, 2006 Author Posted October 24, 2006 she's been taking it 2 yrs and she's been bleeding about 2 weeks. Since it'll be our first time she is self-conscious which I understand. I wouldn't freak out about a little blood but whatever.
