Guest Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 i am a 17 year old male, roughly 5 10, 5 11ish, around 130-135 pounds. i would really like to add 10-15 pounds. what is the best way to do this? oh, and eating good foods probably won't help - i've had a really fast metabolism my entire life, meaning even if i ate like a box of ice cream everyday for a week i would not gain any weight. advice would be appreciated
molimo140 Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Okay there are two ways you could do this. 1) Add 10 lbs of fat 2) Add 10 lbs of muscle Bear in mind here - to maintain/reach a weight, you will need to eat roughly 12 times your desired weight in calories a day to do it. This is including exercise, however. No one wants extra fat, so I assume you're not going for number 1. Since you are 17, your muscles are not fully developed yet. They will not fully develop until you're about 20. It's different for everyone though. The only way to build muscle is through exercise. Start lifting weights, doing pushups/situps, and cardio. Finally you should ALWAYS eat well. It's fine to eat more, just don't eat junk. And of course drink water. You may lose weight before you gain it back. You will be "burning" fat off of your body and adding muscle. When i started working out I lost 10 pounds in a month and was disappointed, however I began to gain it back as I continued. And as a note, it is NOT healthy to gain or lose more than a pound or two in a week. Good luck.
