I have had this weird pain for a few months now. It feels like a pulled muscle that never completely goes away. It hurts mostly when shrugging my shoulders and hurts in my collarbone and is sore when I push on the area below my collarbone. I am a very anxious person and often notice I am tensed up a lot, but it's also hard for me to relax. My dr. seems to think it's from tensing up all the time. I am not so sure. It feels like I have kept my shoulders tightly shrugged for a very long time, but it's very sore in the top part of my right chest, collarbone, and occassionally neck and back of neck on the right side. Has anyone ever heard of this?

It sounds like tension, and the pain travels down to your right side, affecting your ab's. I don't know...

you need to relax. take hot baths, do some yoga, stretching etc., to help your muscles. I know alot about anxiety and how it can affect the body, mind and soul!!

If this is still bothering you in afew weeks, go back to your DR and get him to do some tests, just to be safe and some peace of mind, that way you don't worry even more which makes you tense up!

You might want to consider the possibility of costochondritis -- an inflammation of the cartilage in the breastbone.

It's not a serious condition, but the pain can be severe, even closely mimicking that of a heart attack (if you have it on the left side). Other times it can just be a momentary recurring twinge. It's most often felt high in the chest, even below the collarbone.

It can be cleared up with anti-inflammatory medications. You might want to try OTC ibuprofen first, and then ask your doctor for a stronger prescription if that doesn't work.

Sometimes if you get it once, it will recur throughout your life, but can always be controlled with medications.
