i was talkin to amy dad ,who always thinks hes right. do u guys think ppl who are homeless and on the streets or even ppl who are poor-is b/c they don't have goals in life-meaning becoming a CGA, engineer, or not getting a PHD......or even going up and growing himself in an organization , and that all they want to do is party and have fun. he ssays how all the homeless ppl are all big and strong and how come they don't work , i mean i believe most ppl don'tchose to be on the streets , it gotta to be reason other than goals and ambtions in life

i argue as no as homeless ppl have mental issues....

i jsut started a new job 2 months ago ,how the heck can i become or get a high paying job when i just started in a call centre andprevious before i don;t even have any work experience related to even any work experience. i told him one has to work his way up, and not make that instant 6 figure salary job. btw i only went to community college for a 2 yr business diploma. i now somany fellow grad who finsih the program and are still workin in retail as a cashier....not even related to their field.

how can one even explain this to my harassing folks that no i don;tmake 6 figures and get promoted in 2 months-please get real.

then they compare me to my cousin who is 32 with a MBA degree,. i mean does success determine how much one makes or if ur just happy wiuth ur job. they say like look at ur other 35 yr old cousin who also went to community college hes making 40/hr doing drafting-how about you.

what do i even say to this

I'm not really sure what to say...

If you're OK with what you're doing, then I'd say continue on. It really shouldn't matter what your parents think, as long as you're content.

However, if you still live with your parents, then it does matter what they say. After all, their house, their rules. (BTW, that is why I moved out!)

How do you feel about your current working situation? If you're unhappy, you should offer to do an internship to get experience doing what you do like, and maybe work part time if you're not happy at your current place.

Only you can determine what success is if for yourself.

That said nothing can help you achieve your goals more than persistence. And reaching goals makes many people happy, assuming they don't just go and set new ones instantly.

"Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."

- Calvin Coolidge, 30th President of the United States.

Our society, however, has placed success as only being a filthy rich millionaire. Oh contrare, studies have proven that happiness DOES increase up to about 50k a year income levels, but after 100k it starts to decrease.

Basically the more money you have the less happy you are.

Many people don't own their possesions. Their possesions own them.

Set goals for yourself that you think you can reach. Find your own happy balance. I'd bet anything that the average american farmer is happier than the corporate lawyers on wall street.

Happiness is a choice.

Of course not all homeless people are worthless folks with no drive and determination. That's a stereotype.

Some are, but some of them are drug addicts that have lost everything. My own brother is one of them. Some of them are mentally ill. Margot Kidder that was Lois Lane in Superman with Christopher Reeves wandered the streets for a couple of years because she was bipolar and in an episode.

If you're unsatisfied with your life go back to school. Otherwise it's going to take a bit to get ahead. That and alot of hard work. Perhaps if you dad thinks you should make six figures he'd pay for you to go back to school??? Even with a MBA it's sometimes hard to get ahead.

Stay with this job for at least a year. At my work what I see is younger people with a bit of education that think they should move ahead in 3-6 months and if they don't they leave that job and start another. That looks like you're a job hopper on your resume and no potential employer likes that- or the employee who constantly leaves one place for more money either.

Work hard and accept some additional responsibility if offered. You can work and go to night school as well.
