Hey,

I think this will be ranting post more than anything. I feel like the dumbest person in the world. I get the lowest grades in school regardless of how much I study. I am in my 3rd year of university and have a cgpa of 65%. That is retardedly low, I will never get a professional job with those marks.

My freinds tell me to be confident when I study and I guess they are right, I am not confident when I study or in the material. The problem is that I loose my focus after reading lines or so. Has this happened to someone? I have to read about 200 pages a week in total for my classes but when I am done reading those it feels liek I havent read a single one of them.

I pray to god, when I will have some brains, I wish meet the wizard of oz to get some brains; but like the moral of the story is "you have the power within you".

I just dont know what to do anymore, tired feeling uselss, stupid and dumb. Anyone else feeling this way?

You're not stupid or dumb. It is possible you have a slight learning disability, and that actually can be fixed if you look into getting help for it.

You are a smart person, don't ever doubt yourself that way! Just because you aren't getting really high marks doesn't mean that you won't succeed in life.

Retaining information IS hard, some have a natural way of letting it stick, and some don't. Don't beat up on yourself, k.

Go to your university psychological counselling service and get yourself checked out for ADHD, short term memory loss, dyslexia and other learning disabilities. Give them a very accurate description of what's happening in your study scheme. Short term memory can also be affected by stress, fatigue, depression, certain medications, just plain too much on your mind and MANY other physical and psychological disorders.

Get to the bottom of this. You've gone way to far to let it all go down the drain. There is a problem and the professionals at your university can help you get to the bottom of it if you cooperate fully with them. You might find a whole new world opens for you.

If you were much older, I'd swear you had Alzheimers.

I think this is great advice. And when you find the new world, I want to come too.

Intelligence is a mixture of so, so many things. Keep plugging away, and you will discover your strengths.

Hey,

I have been to the psychologist to my university also the therapist. The therapist and I discovered that I have ADHD and also the fear of failiure. The fear of failiure disables me to try or attempt to try anything.

I don't know what to do anymore, I think I have to make another appointment. But man I feel soo dumb, almost in tears but at the same time I know if i be optmistic and more confident I can do it.

Thanks for the post though, is anyone else going through the same thing?

...get yourself a timer and set it for 5 minutes. Then apply yourself 100% to the task at hand for that 5 minutes then take a 2 minute break. If you can focus for 5 minutes then increase the time to 10 minutes on/3 minutes off, 15 minutes on/4 minutes off until you get to 20 minutes full effort studying/reading with 5 minute breaks. You might find you actually learn more and retain more by studying this way.

Another 'trick' to try is to change topics you study every 25 minutes. For example study topic 'A' for 20 minutes, take a 5 minute break then switch to topic 'B.'

Study location could be a thing for you. Some people do well in quiet environments like a library is supposed to be. That drove me crazy in college and I found I learned the best in a noisy environment like a cafeteria.

Fear of failure? Not in college but in the work place I have found that I do my best when I don't count successes and focus on the job at hand. In other words I don't keep score like some people do but get wrapped up in doing the best I can do at the moment. Ignore failure and success, focus on being your best in this moment and everything WILL take care of itself.

I played a game with myself in getting ready for exams or having projects/reports done. Instead of timing my study, etc. for a specific exam or due date set by the college or instructor I'd place an artificial date in place. Anywhere from 2 to 7 days ahead of schedule to be 100% done or prepared, then in that 2 to 7 day period I'd polish up what I had prepared or prepared for. This worked really well for me.
