I've seen a bunch of posts that talk about breaking up over text messages...here's my situation. I've been thinking about ending it with guy #2 because I'm developing slightly more serious feelings for guy #1...guy #1 knows that I've dated others, guy #2 does not know yet (didn't get close enough to even talk about that). Well, last I saw guy #2 was a week ago...we've texted (is that a word?) each other a lot over the 3 weeks we dated. He texted me a short msg on Sunday, and after that, nothing. I texted him a short message yesterday, didn't hear from him. Dropped him a line via email saying "haven't heard from you lately, what's up?" nothing heavy. Well, I'm thinking about texting him something short and sweet like "don't think this will work, good luck in life, btw can I have my dvd back?"..........maybe that's crass. What do you guys think?

Regardless of how casual a relationship is/was, ending it by text message is just plain cowardly. At the very least you should make a phone call. Think of how you would feel if it were done to you. Sure, if it were someone you had no feelings for you may not care one way or another but what if it were someone you cared about? That's pretty cruel, IMO.

or you can just ignorehim and he will go away. The price of the dvd is what you pay

Ignoring him is just as cowardly as breaking up by text message.

People really should consider other people's feelings in situations such as this. Would you want someone to totally ignore you and drop off the face of the earth regardless of the 'reasons'?

I'd hate to read "good luck in life" and "can I have my dvd back?" in the same text message...

I'd say at least call him. If he does not answer, follow kjl933's advice.

You can still email/text him about the dvd after quite a lot of time has passed (I wouldn't do it if the dvd was a cheap one that you can still find on sale, though).

I suggest doing it on the phone. Breaking up in a text is so impersonal. I think the person at least deserves that.

Good luck!!!

I guess part of me is ticked off at him ignoring me, so my knee jerk reaction would be to send him a jerky text message like that...but I could be grown up about it and give him the courtesy he isn't giving me and call him. Oh, and the DVD? Lord of the Rings, special extended edition with 2 bonus dvds with extras, $40 bucks. I want it back, dammit!

Call/text him telling him that you need your dvd back and asking to catch up. Once you are face to face, break up with him in person.

I think that is the BEST advice. :)

Sometimes, phone calls and face to face are vitally necessary...got in touch with guy #2, turns out he did text me back Wednesday, I just never got it, and he never got the email I sent him Thursday...we talked on the phone and made plans to IM chat tonight, but I think I'll still wait till I see him face to face to end it.

*SIGH* one of the curses of being a woman, is jumping to conclusions, now my emotions are all f***ed up
