xLOPES Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 i was just wondering, how likely, or how common/uncommon is it for a relationship in high school to be one that lasts, one that you keep for a lifetime, through marriage, and so on. i know it is only high school and there will be many more oppurtunities, but i had just read a thread suggesting that love is set by fate, 'being at the right place at the right time' and what if in high school, you meet tat special someone, the one thats meant for you? ??
superconductor Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 First of all, there is no "one" meant for you and you alone. Secondly, love is not set by fate. Love is nothing of the sort. Love requires effort. It is not some airy-fairy "feeling." Now, with all that said, I know personally of two couples that met in high school, married, and 30 years later are still married. I also know more than my share of divorce war veterans, both male and female. In short, there's no way to know.
Sally00 Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Well... I think it's rare for relationships in high school to last forever. Because people are still a bit immature when it comes to things like that. But those relationships that end in a lasting marriage (like Corey & Topanga ), well GOOD FOR THEM! I honestly think college sweethearts are more likely to last than high school sweethearts.

I agree with Superconductor... there is no way to know 100% I will however say, Thank God I didn't marry my high school sweetheart. Doh!
bfootdude Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Don't listen to ANYONE that puts you down about it... Things WILL work out if it's meant to happen. Don't worry bout the future (if it will last or not). Enjoy your time together! Do what your heart tells you and nothing less! It WILL work out if you both want it enough!
Guest Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 I think there is fate in love and we can find "the one" for us, and that may be in highschool. You never know when and where your gonna fall in love until it happens. My boyfriend and I started dating on the last day of our final yr of high school, and I know his the one. I think the down side to highschool dating is that often your immature when you start dating and you can often grow apart as you experience life more and know what you want and don't want. Some highschool romances last and others don't. There are people I know from high school who have brought houses together and who will stay together but I also know people who have broken up from a highschool relationship because things no longer work. But its the same for any relationship. You can grow apart or things might just not work any more. I think if its meant to be and if you and your partner want it to be and are willing to work at your relationship to make it survive a lifetime then i think yes a high school sweetheart can be the one.
Guest Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 I think your high school sweetheart could be around in your future. I think that there needs to be time apart to experience other people out there. If you are together through out highschool and college, you will someday wonder what it would have been like if you dated someone else. Then that leads to cheating and so on. I have seen more High School couples last that have dated other before marriage then being together all the way through. If its true and real, nothing will keep you guys from getting back together. That feeling will always be with you no matter who else you date which ultimatley will bring you back to "that one". Thats just my 2 cents since I had at one time researched statistics. Yes they are out there if you dont believe me so go look! Phil
