FolderWife Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Is it when you kiss for the first time? When you have sex for the first time? When you say I love you for the first time? When you meet his or her parent's for the first time? Or when you clarify, and say, "Ok, am I considered your Girlfriend/Boyfriend?" and they say, "Yes." The reason I ask, is because I had done all of the above with a boyfriend of 8 months, and then when he cheated on me, and I caught him, he said after the fact, "We (he and I) weren't even together when I was with her! So how is that cheating!?" What do you think? Is it when you get engaged!? HE WAS THE ONE TALKING MARRIAGE!!!
gemmab2020 Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I think he is a total jerk!!!! I usually try to clarify, but I suppose you just sometimes know after you have been on a few dates that you are exclusively together etc... But then again, some people just make their own rules up!!!!! Forget that guy, no good.
Sally00 Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 What an ass. I've always had a problem with whether or not it was official. It'd bug the hell outta me. But it is when they officially ask you to be their girlfriend. Don't let a kiss or "I love you" make you assume you're official. ASSUMING = BAAAAD. My boyfriend has loved me for over a year before I even had feelings for him. He'd SAY "I love you." It didn't mean WE were official. lol. We've been dating for 8 months... but have been official for 7 1/2.
Cheshire Cat Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I need the "official talk". I don't care if it might sound childish, nobody is ever going to give me the "we weren't together" line again.
Author FolderWife Posted September 22, 2006 Author Posted September 22, 2006 Oh, I am. I just read a thread that made me think of that guy, and I just wondered what the universal answer was.
Author FolderWife Posted September 22, 2006 Author Posted September 22, 2006 Oh, and by the way, that JERK is NOT the man I married
david616098 Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 there are no hard and fast rules i think when you first say i love you to each other then you are in a relationship
lovelorcet Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 "when you clarify, and say, "Ok, am I considered your Girlfriend/Boyfriend?" and they say, "Yes." Everyone sees this differently that is why you need to have the talk.
MadDog Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 I think you're officially together once the excitement and fun have worn off. Haha. Just kidding. I think it's official when you have some sort of understanding that it's an exclusive relationship (e.g. neither party will date anyone else.) Pretty simple, right?
