Anyone here who has gotten to know me over the last few weeks has known I've been doing MUCH better.....

Well, this morning, I shot myself in the foot, emotionally.

One of my friends was online (she's still in SOME contact with my ex), so we were talking... and I said the SIX words no guy should ever say in this situation...

"So, you talk to her lately?"

Big mistake.

"Yes I have... she's fine... she's seeing someone....."

That's all I needed to hear.

Like electricity shooting through my body.

I actually began to panic, while at the same time, feeling like a moron, because I basically KNEW she was with someone.....

But now I KNOW it, and it was just so hard for me to take.

I spent the first half of my work day staring at my monitor, a mixture of depressed (I miss her!), confused (Why did this happen?), angry (I can't believe she dumped me for some Match.com a-hole!), and just plain helpless.

Thankfully, the bulk of the feeling went away after a while, but now I'm haunted... Haunted by picturing her in my mind going to places WE used to go to...with another guy.....the same clubs...hanging out with the same people...the same restaurants.......

Do I even need to mention the sexual images?

You know, you work your ass off emotionally to erase all this, and in 30 seconds, it's like she dumped me yesterday.

One step forward, two steps back....

Why couldn't I just keep my morbidly obese mouth shut for once?

I really, truly need a drink.

Thanks, man. I needed that.

I wonder if I'm the only person here who knows your screen name is a Rush song?

You have no idea how much Rush has been an influence on my life, either. It's odd to give so much credit for one's "development" to a musical group, but so many Rush songs have a lot of very personal meanings to me.

Sadly, that list includes "Nobody's Hero", "Everyday Glory", and "Cold Fire".....Combine those 3 songs, there's my life's story.

It's always easier to pick out the sad ones, isn't it?

For me, the song that still has the most impact is The Pass.

Since you're a bass player, I pretty much had it figured that you'd be a Rush fan. And you're right, the handle is from that song. Not too many songs can get away with using 7/4 timing in the verses and 4/4 in the chorus!

Not only am I a bassist, I play a Steinberger. :) (The one in my picture is my Yamaha, but I own a headless Steinberger as well.)

#Watch her every move, Superconductor....# lol

Ok, Ok. I feel better.

Happy now?

Hey, whenever I get down and pi$$ed off at the world, I remember what happened to Neil and suddenly my issues don't seem nearly so insurmountable.

Have you read his books? He's got a new one coming out sometime this month or next month.

I heard somewhere that he really comes off as a jerk though.....

Never met the dude, but I've heard the same from people who have.

The books are good reads though, well worth checking out. Your local library's probably got them:

  • The Masked Rider
  • Ghost Rider
  • Traveling Music
  • Roadshow (available sometime soon)

TP,

Most of us here know what that is like. But keep this in mind. There WILL come a time when you won't care who she is with or what she is doing. It won't matter. It is then that you have regained your power.

Take care.
